Is it OK to ask a celebrant to wear a costume at our wedding?

Hello! I've read some responses to celebrants dressing in a matching style etc. Is it rude to ask if they wouldn't mind wearing a costume? I've read somewhere a couple got married by batman and then the obvious Elvis option.. I like the idea of an iconic character and think it would be something to remember but wouldn't want to offend anyone or make it a bad experience. TIA

Hi,  Yes of course it's ok!!  I have dressed up several times for my couples, and loved it.  I have also respected couples requests  to dress in certain colours, and formal / not so formal styles.  Its all up to you, as the marrying couple...  I would however maybe ask the Celebrant when you first meet them.  Maybe even just to ask if it's something they may be comfortable with, if you do decide to dress things up.

Enjoy!

Confusion around roles of matron of honour, maid of honor and who can be a witness with the best man

I have a Maid of Honor who is unmarried and a Matron of Honor who is married. I want my Matron to be a witness along with the Best Man. Even though she is married, can I have her as the Maid instead?

Paradise Marriages - Janet

Most marriaged today are less formal and allow for couples to choose who ever they want to act as their witnesses... as long as they are over the age of 18 and able to hear, and understand the legal ceremony, they can be your witness.

A Maton of Honour was traditionally the married bridal assistant, and the Miad the unmarried support person.   Just choose whoever you want to be your witness, and enjoy your special day!!

How many weddings do you book in per day?

Are celebrants usually doing one per day? or two on some days? How is this possible?! haha

Paradise Marriages - Janet

Hi there....  I usually do just one on any given day, but have sometimes done 2 (Valentines Day and New Years Eve are busy days!!)  I like to allow a 4 to 5 hour space between ceremonies to allow ample time between for changing, winding down and getting there.

Any advice on writing my vows to my wife-to-be?

Paradise Marriages - Janet

Oh... I love the Vows bit!!  Love to help with these too.  I suggest they can be as long, short, complex or simple as you like, and serious or funny.... as long as they contain the legal bit that I'm happy to put in there for you. I say 'go from the heart',  it's the one shot you have of telling your chosen one how you feel and what your dreams are...  Your marriage is a public declaration of your private dream, so make it memorable if you want to!  I have lots of wording suggestions I send to my couples. These can be a starting point and be mixed and matched to suit you.  I also suggest couples send me their vows separately and keep them secret from eachother until the big day.
