Dean and I were absolutely delighted with the wonderful job Rosalind did for our wedding. Rosalind has an effervescent, joyful manner and many guests commented on how nice it was. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rosalind for Your special celebration day. Thanks, Rosalind! Best wishes Veronica and Dean.

Ros was a fantastic celebrant. My wife and I managed to organise a very small and intimate wedding in the south east of Melbourne while living in the UK. Ros was able to provide help and support and we organised the whole thing within 5 weeks. We caught up with Ros and did a run through and loved how personal she had made the ceremony. Would highly recommend her. Thanks again Ros

Ros was a fantastic wedding celebrant! She tailored the ceremony specifically to our lives and our story and she was so eloquent and professional. Her website has some great resources for wedding vows, ring ceremonies and wedding readings. I have no hesitation recommending her, she's the best!

Ros was great to work with. She was always easy to talk with and helped us through so many obstacles of planning a wedding. She was accommodating to all of our personal touches to the ceremony. We could not have picked a better celebrant!

Is there a traditional left and right side for the bride's family and groom's family?

Does the bride's side traditionally sit on the left or the right at the ceremony?

Rosalind Mackay Celebrant

With most modern weddings, it's a case of pick a seat not a side. Traditionally the grooms family sits on the right and the bride on the left but you can mix this up a bit if you like.

Do you have to belong to a church to get married there?

We love the look of some of the older cathedrals, but neither of us is religious. Would we be permitted to marry there?

Rosalind Mackay Celebrant

Yes you can have your wedding in a church or chathedral without belonging to it, however you still have to have a religious service with the resident priest. The prices vary according to the church. However there are some decommissioned churches where I have been allowed to be the celebrant at weddings before. The Cathedral at the Police accademy in Mount Waverley is amazing and you can hold non religious ceremonies there. Also the old St Martin's chapel in Belgrave is a decommisioned church where you can hold weddings. If you want something that looks like a church but isn't a practicing church, have a look at Montsalvat in Eltham or the Abbortsford convent. Good luck!

Can we have our wedding before legally getting married?

Is it possible to have a wedding without signing anything legally and then go to the registry with witnesses a few months later to sign the marriage documents? My fiance is in a visa process and has been advised not to change his marriage status until he receives his permanent residency. However, we want to have our wedding with family and friends before we move away later this year and can't guarantee he'll receive the residency in time.

Rosalind Mackay Celebrant

You can have a commitment ceremony before legally getting married where you say personal vows etc, however the guests need to be aware that this isn't a legally binding ceremony. During Covid lockdowns, we had a lot of the opposite: couples legally getting married with just 5 people and then holding the big wedding reception a year later and renewing their vows when everyone came out of lockdown.
