Not even three knee reconstructions would stop Ray Watkins from following tradition and getting down on one knee to propose to high school sweetheart Jenna Bonaventura.
“He proposed at our favourite beach lookout on his favourite day of the year – Australia Day,” smiles Jenna, 27. “Ray [28] had already asked my dad for permission and had secretly purchased the ring on a holiday one month prior.”
For part of their 11-year relationship leading up to their rustic wedding was spent long distance. As stated at their ceremony, “Even with Jenna away in Townsville for university testing them both, but with phone calls to each other every day and Ray putting in the kilometres back and forwards down to visit, even this ‘life test’ would not dent the love, the affection and the regard these two had for each other.”
More than 100 guests gathered at Tinaroo Lake Resort in Queensland to witness the couple’s love on May 3, 2014. “It was so special to have all of our beautiful family and friends in the one room at the same time,” says Jenna. “They had travelled from over the globe to celebrate with us.”
Jenna’s gown was by Romeo & Juliet’s Bridal and the bridesmaids were dressed by For Her and For Him.
“We have endured long distance, highs, lows, laughs and cries – with every moment leading us to a spectacular wedding day,” says Jenna.
Jenna’s ring was purchased on an American cruise ship liner!
