Beating the burnout: Is it time for you to switch off?
Wedding season is around the corner, as Easy Weddings’ annual survey says that the wedding season kicks off in October, with 12% of weddings happening then and 15% in November.
For many in the wedding industry, the quiet winter months offer a brief moment to catch your breath. There’s some preparation to be done before the next wave of weekends filled with love, late nights, and a whole lot of work. But for business owners, the quieter months are also a time to reset and recharge. The pause often short-lived, especially when emails still ping after hours, clients want updates, and the to-do list keeps growing.
Burnout is real. Burnout in the wedding industry is very real. And burnout when you run your own small business (often solo) is extremely real. There is a blurred line between work and personal life which leaves little room for recharging. But here’s the thing: taking time to rest isn’t just nice and good for you, it’s really good for your couples as well. A refreshed, present, and focused supplier delivers better work, better communication, and better experiences.
So, before the season ramps up again around September or October, here are some practical ways to step back and switch off, without dropping the ball.

How do you switch off?
Set boundaries (and actually stick to them!)
Just because wedding planning feels like a round-the-clock job for the couple, it doesn’t need to be for you. If you hear the all-too-familiar sound of an email notification at 10pm when you’ve finished work for the day, you don’t need to respond. You can set your working hours and communicate them clearly from the get-go.
Use an autoresponder after hours that lets people know when they’ll hear from you. This will not only protect your own time but also set healthy expectations from the get-go.
Take a mini break (just for a couple of days)
A quick weekend away, even just an hour or two from home, can do wonders for your mindset. Whether it’s beach or bush or even a Staycation, leave the dishes and washing up at home and kick back. A few days off-grid and a change of scenery can really refresh your perspective.
Bonus tip? Visit another venue or hospitality space while you’re there. You might pick up styling inspiration, customer experience ideas, or fresh ways to present your own offering.
At Easy Weddings, we’re offering you the chance to win your own recharge opportunity. If you list on Easy Weddings before 15 August 2025 you’ll go into the running to win a luxury escape in your state. Now that is just what the doctor ordered.
Give your inbox a timeout
Your emails will still be in your inbox tomorrow, we promise. If you’re finding yourself refreshing your inbox, responding at every time of the day, and spending more time on your phone than normal, it’s time to reset. Carve out some blocks to check and respond to emails rather than being on call all day.
Go into your calendar and block out time, and when that window is closed, move onto something else – even if it’s just making yourself a cup of tea! Tools like scheduling apps and auto-replies can help manage communication without keeping you glued to your inbox 24/7.

Time to reconnect
It’s easy to do… Lose sight of why you started doing this job to begin with! Take a moment to revist what you love about your work. Look through past review, photos from your favourite weddings, or take time to work on your business, rather than in it.
Refresh your branding, update your Easy Weddings storefront, update your socials, browse trends and get some inspiration, and spend some time checking out what others are doing. These low-pressure tasks can reignite your spark without the stress.

Create a digital wind-down routine
Avoid falling into the scroll hole, also known as ‘doom-scrolling’. You know, when you open up your phone for a second, look up, and realise you’ve just been on TikTok for an hour? It happens to the best of us!
Set a time each evening to step away from your phone, switch off notifications, and resist the urge to “just check one more thing.” Whether it’s reading, watching a feel-good show, or even just going for a walk, your brain needs space to reset.
Talk to people who get it
Owning a wedding business can be isolating, but the wedding industry is a community. Reach out to your fellow suppliers, join online groups or forums, or just grab a coffee with a vendor friend. Share some stories, wins, and challenges. The rhythm of the industry can throw you off balance, but sharing knowledge and having a laugh with someone who gets it can ground you right back down.
You don’t need to go completely off-grid or take a month-long holiday (unless you can, go for it!). Even small shifts in how you protect your time and energy can make a huge difference. Burnout doesn’t just affect your wellbeing. This can trickle down into how you connect with your couples, manage timelines, and show up creatively.
So if you’ve been running on autopilot, consider this your permission to pause.
The season will be here before you know it. Make sure you’re ready. Rested, recharged, and ready to bring your best.
