Weddings; they’re a beautiful event. Tradition, elegance… and absolute chaos. Sometimes you have to go above and beyond to make the day run smoothly. We found our favourite unhinged tips from brides… that actually worked.

From telling guests the ceremony starts half an hour earlier (because, let’s be honest, no one’s ever on time) to replacing flower girls with “champagne guys” handing out bubbly, brides are rewriting the rules in the most unexpected ways. We’ve rounded up 10 of the wildest wedding tips that sound unhinged… But actually worked like a charm.

The good, the bad, and the weird – here’s our favourite unhinged tips from brides. Source: Amelia and Michael’s Real Wedding.

Lose my phone

Like a person trying to improve their sleep score, this bride didn’t want her phone to distract her. What unhinged tip did she have? “Lose it”!

I told my bridesmaids to ‘accidentally’ misplace my phone on the morning of the wedding. No notifications, no last-minute stress, no one asking me what time the bus leaves. Best decision ever!

Better to be early than late!

Although it’s tradition for the bride to run a little behind schedule, it seems like more and more guests are taking this tradition in their own hands. This bride’s unhinged tip? Tell the guests a little white lie. It won’t hurt.

Tell everyone the ceremony starts 30 minutes earlier than it actually does! I told guests the ceremony was at 3. It started at 3:30. Not a single latecomer!

Swear on the bible – the wedding bible!

For some brides, they want to stay as organised as possible (which reminds us, have you signed up for Easy Weddings yet?) but they also need to pass on the responsibility torch. This unhinged tip is all about rewriting the script, or the bible!

We sent our wedding party our “wedding bible”! Literally every single detail that needed to be known on the day, from what was happening when and where, to who was responsible for what, all the supplier names, arrival times, literally everything! We didn’t have a coordinator for the day so this just helped us make sure we didn’t have to worry about anything and that our people had everything under control!

Blink twice if you need help!

For some people, they need an ‘emergency’ phone call to get out of bad dates, for this bride, she needed an emergency blink to get out of awkward situations or long convos.

My MOH and I had a signal (blink 3 times fast) for when I needed to escape convos. She swooped in and rescued me a few times. 10/10 recommend.

No aux cord for you!

Some songs are ‘so bad they’re good’, and others are just frankly… bad. And whether or not you want to hear Daryl Braithwaite’s Horses should be up to you, and not your guests! Enter: unhinged bridal tip number 5.

Create a “do not play” song list for the DJ/band! Even if guests request them, they’re a hard no. There’s nothing more awkward than a bad song coming on and all your guests just slowly getting off the dancefloor.

Secretly sober

Your wedding day is a big one – and you don’t need to add too much champagne to the mix! This unhinged tip kept this couple sober.

We had the bartenders swap out all my champagne for non-alcoholic bubbles and all my drinks for non-alcoholic options. I really wanted to take in and remember the whole day, but we knew people would want to bring us drinks and get us liquored up. So nobody knew we were pretty much sober because it looked like we were drinking, but we remember the whole day and woke up feeling fresh the next day!

Walk a mile in these Louboutins

These shoes were made for walking! Down the aisle, that is! And you’ll need to be comfortable. This bride warded off blisters by wearing the wedding shoes before the big day!

Wear your wedding shoes before the wedding to break them in! I literally walked around the house in them every day for a month before the wedding because I was so worried I’d get blisters on the wedding day – worked a treat, my feet were totally fine in my shoes for over 10 hours!

Cheers to you!

If you don’t know anyone who’s suitable to be a flower girl, never fear! There’s always a champagne guy. What’s that, you say? Well, it’s as unhinged as it sounds! Thanks to this bride for her fun tip.

We had  “champagne guys” instead of a flower girl – before we walked down the aisle, two of our best friends who weren’t in the wedding party went down the aisle with champagne glasses so that everyone could cheers when the celebrant said “kiss the bride”. It was so fun!

Full moon

Not quite a tip but a word of warning for those who have a few too many and make their way into the photo booth. This couple got a little more than they bargained for.

I don’t know if this is advice but if you’re having a digital photo booth at your wedding and your wedding guests are quite drunk… expect the late night photos to include bare butts hahah we didn’t expect it and let’s just say I’ll never look at some of my friends the same again.

Role playing

Give everyone a role if you want to keep them busy – if your new in-laws!

Give your and your fiance’s parents jobs for the day so they feel useful, otherwise they’ll just be in your grill asking how they can help all day and you’ll just want to crack it at them.
