In the heart of Ferntree Gully, nestled amidst the serene beauty of Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, there exists a unique wedding photography and videography business: Moon Honey.
The essence of Moon Honey lies in the passion and dedication of its founders, James and Dana Gillot, a husband and wife duo committed to turning couples’ special moments into cherished memories. In a candid interview with Moon Honey, they shared insights into their distinctive approach and what makes their service stand out.
All your priceless wedding moments captured
When asked about what sets Moon Honey apart, James and Dana emphasized their hands-on involvement throughout the entire wedding journey. “We are a husband and wife duo, and we are with you for the entire journey,” James explained. “Our couples love how easy it is to work with us. We really are dedicated to giving our couples the best experience possible. This means we often stay late at the reception to make sure that the big moments are captured.”
A personal touch
Unlike many other photography and videography companies that use hired staff to shoot and outsource editing, James and Dana handle every aspect of their service delivery personally. They take immense pride in their work and prioritize quality over convenience.
Party people!
Their favourite part of being in the wedding industry? “We love a good party!” Dana laughed. “What better way is there to make a living than sharing and really seeing people on some of the happiest days of their lives. At the end of the day, shooting weddings is about creating memories for a lifetime, and that, to us, is meaningful work.”
Ahead of the curve
While the wedding industry experiences various trends, Moon Honey stays true to their timeless style. “We don’t really focus on trends; for us, it’s about producing work that is timeless,” James explained. “In saying that, we are seeing more and more First Looks, which we love. It gives our couples more time together and more time to enjoy the reception with their friends and family.”
Weddings near and far
Their memorable experiences in the industry include a wedding in Thailand that encountered an unexpected monsoon. “Unfortunately, on the morning of the wedding, a monsoon rolled in which resulted in all the local streets flooding,” Dana recalled. “Fortunately, the sun came out, and by the late afternoon, everything was dry for a gorgeous sunset ceremony on the beach, complete with a release of butterflies. A roller-coaster of a day!”
Advice from the Moon Honey team to you
For couples searching for the perfect wedding photography and videography supplier, James and Dana offer valuable advice. “Find someone with a style you really like and ask to see an example of an entire gallery from a single wedding,” they advised. “It’s easy to take a few really good hero shots, but to have the entire day captured well is a different skill set.”
In addition, they encourage couples to consider getting video. “The feedback we are getting from our clients is that they often re-watch the video to relive the day,” James explained. “It’s an easier way to reconnect with the memories and emotions of the day. If you weren’t originally thinking about getting video, just watch a few videos to get an idea of what could be captured.”
