To be honest, I think that's the wrong question, for two reasons.

Firstly, I don't think most people's styles are that distinct. It's not like how you can say "impressionism" or "fauvism" in art.

Secondly, I think the better question is, "Which videos make me feel something?" And if you find a few videos that make you feel, then maybe you've found your videographer. Questions of style, etc, go out the window -- the important thing is the emotion.

But if you're looking to classify by style, here's some ways to think about it...

You can class by length firstly: 3-5 minute "highlights" or "teaser" or "trailer", longer 10 minute, 15 minute, 25 minute, 45 minute film, and beyond that there's 1-2 hour "long versions". It depends on culture as well. Some cultures wants to see ALL the dancing at the reception, or have many rituals through the day. So, it's possible to produce 8-hour-plus films.

You can class by budget.

You can class by type of wedding. You know, some videographers and photographers mostly do city weddings, some mostly do country, some do big extravagant weddings, some do short 2-hour ceremony-only type weddings. Some do destination weddings. Some do Indian weddings, some do Serbian, some do Lebanese, Greek, Chinese, Jewish, etc. Every videographer will tell you they can do every sort of wedding, and they probably can. But there's definitely an element of adaptation to what they believe their normal clients are looking for.

You can class by things like editing style and colours, which partly depends on camera and lens. You know, some people do very energetic camera work with lots of movement, some people do very controlled movements or no movements. Some people like big, saturated colours, and some people prefer more muted and restrained.

Words like "natural", "cinematic", "personal", "warm" maybe don't mean much at the end of the day. They're overused. Everyone is going to claim they're "natural" or that their work is "cinematic".

What I'd recommend is talking to people, asking them to describe how they go about shooting things, what they see as unique to their methods, what they see as characterising their style, etc.

At Love Magic Films, I offer different styles of wedding videos to cater to my clients' preferences. Here are some of the styles that I offer:

  1. Cinematic: This style involves using creative camera angles, dramatic lighting, and music to create a cinematic experience that tells the story of your wedding day.
  2. Documentary: This style focuses on capturing the events of the day as they happen in a natural and unobtrusive way. It's like a visual documentary of your wedding day.
  3. Short-form: This style is a condensed version of the cinematic or documentary style, usually lasting 3 to 5 minutes. It's a great option for couples who want to share their wedding video on social media or watch it quickly.
  4. Traditional: This style is more traditional and formal, capturing the key moments of the day, such as the ceremony, speeches, and first dance.

At Love Magic Films, I work with my clients to understand their preferences and deliver a wedding video that reflects their unique style and personality.

Our style is that of a romance novel, a middle, beginning and a conclusion. The only difference is unlike most videos we want our couple to watch their film over and over again. So we have three options. The first being a 7-10 minute cinematic masterpiece that includes music, audio snippets of the day and the best parts to create an emotional piece.

From there we go to our secod package which includes 15-25 minute extended cinemastic highlights which is crafted with the assistance of the main vows and main speeches handcrafted to a selection of music.

Finally our royal package which is similar to a documentary version which incapsulates all speeches, entire fist dance and everything that will give you that movie feeling.

As with all of our packages we do film all day at no extra cost, thus maximising your time and gaining the best parts of every aspect of the day

A mastie rpiece crafted with the assistance of ceremony vows, main speeches, beautifully edited with 5-8 licensed songs. A true wonder that can be watched over and over again.

Most videographers these days are filming in a Cinematic Style which is the term given for videos filmed using modern DSLR Cameras as opposed to video cameras. For the editing of these videos you'll find popular styles include a Creative Short Film which is a 15 minute version, a highlights reel used mainly for social media sharing and long version typically viewed by close family on special occasions.

I think there are as many styles as there are weddings...

A good videographer is very adaptable and can show you what you want to see.  Do you want an elegant style, or lots of action or humour, classic, documentary, it's all in there and if you ask the right videographer they'll give you that in your video.  Watch a few wedding videos, I'm sure you'll quickly understand what kind of a style resonates with you!

Put simply it's kinda on a spectrum from  'Documentary' - A true adaptation of events in real time. To 'Artistic' - Use of cinematic, slow mo and graphic effects to make the film more emotive. Personal preference picks where on the spectrum you lay. ;)
