Yes you can DIY on budget, you can source some decorations from used weddings, check out Facebook marketplace or follow some Facebook groups such as Wedding Buy Sell Swap Australia. Getting flowers from the market or your local supermarket/florist can be an alternative in having more control on what you use. However, there is only a limit of time that the venue can allow you to access to set up and decorate and this time you should be using to relax and have a blast with your friends visiting you. I suggest if you were doing DIY, you can use one of my services "BYO decor styling" where I am able to sweep in use your decor and style your wedding to what you envision, I will also pack down your decorations safely so you can party on!

Hiya,

As some of the other responses mention it really depends on what it is, but I also find it also depends on whether you have a good support network to help you (so you're not left of your own) and also if you/a friend has some experience. For example, if you were to make calligraphy place cards and have a friend who is good at calligraphy, then you can save money there - the part that can go wrong is if you want a certain calligraphy look and feel but have not had the training yourself, it can look just that - DIY.

In doing DIY, you also need to be aware that it will take a lot more time (as most of the time people have never done it and are learning on the job) compared to someone who is experienced in it. If you have time up your hands then it could a good option to do a trial run and see if you like the outcome. The costs can also add up quickly, and end up very close to having a professional do it themselves. DIY is best done earlier in the planning stage where possible so you have time up your sleeve should something not go to plan.

My advice is weigh up how much time you have, what your budget is, do your research, see if anyone around you has experience and can help and then do a trial run first. If you would like any more advice please feel free to get in contact.

Good luck!

It comes down to what you mean by DIY. Do you mean just making your own flowers ? Or hosting your wedding in your backyard and bringing in all the suppliers? Or hiring a blank canvas wedding? How much styling and detail are you after? In some circumstances DIY can be cheaper and in others it may not. For instance, hiring a hall and having to hire everything including tables, chairs, table ware, serving staff, decorations, certain equipment etc. can add up and in the end may cost you more. Also you would have to consider the amount of time and work involved in doing everything and for most DIY weddings, it would be advised to hire a coordinator for the day and people to help set everything up. DIY weddings can be extremely beautiful and unique so I would recommend this option if you want to do it for the reason of having a different style of wedding and having flexibility in doing what you want. If money is your only reason, there a plenty of reasonably priced venues that can do all of the work and it could end up costing less overall.

Hi , DIY will save you on the delivery/pickup & installation/dismantle fee. There are a few other points that you should look into.. Is your venue available in the days prior for set up..? there would be nothing more stressful than having to style your wedding on the day. Also will you have help? it is time consuming and experts will get in and have their routine .. then there is the packdown.. does your venue want the styling packed up on the night of your wedding? you would need helpers on the night if this was the case.. otherwise it is a job for the next day and would you be happy doing this on the first day of your marriage?

It can be in some circumstances depending on which elements your after. By the time you factor in the time you spend in pre production and set up and dismantle its generally cheaper to out source.
