The same legal requirements apply to this couple as it does for Australian born couples. This couple will need  passports, birth certificates, a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), completed which will be valid for not more than 18 months and not less than one calander month from signing the form infront of a registered authorized commonwealth  marriage celebrant.

Although you live in the UK, you both can marry in Australia.  You just need to email/contact the celebrant who will step through the process, notably the first being the completion of the Notice of Intended Marriage form and the mimimum one month notice requirement prior being married.  Hope this helps.

That you be over 18 and in the country.  That is all you need.

If you are here already you can complete the paperwork and wait for one month and then marry,

If you have not arrived you can compelte the paperwork and send it here, and one month later marry.

That is the simplest answer depending on where you are.

Firstly congratulation on your pending special day.

Secondly, I can advise that anyone can come to Australia and get married, on the proviso that you met all the legal requirement and adhere to the timeline for each of the procedures.

Let me explain below:

  • If either of you are already in Australia, you can lodge the Notice of Intended Marriage Form (NOIM) with an Australian Civil celebrant first without needing both parties to be present, or
  • if both of you are outside of Australia, either of you can go to the Australian Embassy in your country to get the completed NOIM witnessed and dated, and then contact an Australian celebrant of your choice
  • The NOIM needs to be completed and lodged with your chosen celebrant at least a minimum of one month in advance of your planned date of wedding. It can be up to a maximum of 18 months in advance
  • Valid ID includes UK Birth Certificate, passport, Drivers Licence and/or Proof of Age Card if you have one. The original of all IDs used will need to be sighted by the Celebrant.
  • You must not already have been married
  • You must not be related to each other
  • You need to be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • If either of you have been divorced &/or are a widow, then documents such as original copy of a Divorce Certificate &/or a Death Certificate of your previous spouse will need to be produced to your preferred celebrant
