Expert Advice

As a wedding professional, Marry Me Sean - Civil Marriage Celebrant offers expert advice to help couples plan their perfect day. Ask a question or read their expert advice.

Does the celebrant have to do the whole "how they met" story?

I feel like that might be awkward for us. We are a super stong and stable couple now, but when we met we still had a lot of growing up to do (we were teenagers, and broke each others hearts.) We had a huge falling out and reconnected later. It was very messy and all of our fam and friends know that. Do we have to go into that when our life is so beautiful NOW, and has been for years now?

Most definitely not. The beauty of civil marriage in Australia is that you do your wedding YOUR way. A good celebrant will do everything they can to facilitate this. It is definitely possible to tell your story but leave out the details they you don't think paints a good picture of where you are now. It's all in way it's told.

How many weddings do you book in per day?

Are celebrants usually doing one per day? or two on some days? How is this possible?! haha

I have done two weddings in a day. It's not common but it is entirely possible to do and give your all to both. But I would only do it if there were at least 3 or 4 hours between the ceremonies and they were in the same area. In the cases I have done it the earlier ceremony has been in the morning or at midday and the later ceremony has been at 5 or 6pm. In one hectic weekend last year I performed 4 ceremonies in one weekend! And they were ALL amazing.

do you think its important to go with a vendor who is same-sex friendly?

If that aligns with your beliefs

Personally I think it's vital. Consider this. If you have around 100 guests at your wedding, chances are that at least 5 of those will be gay and that number could well be much higher. I would imagine that you woudn't want any of them to be made to feel not welcome by any of your chosen vendors. Personally I am a very strong believer in marriage equality. For me it doesn't have anything to do with politics and is really just a basic issue of human equality and granting the same rights to all. As a marriage celebrant I am very passionate about this issue and very much looking forward to being able to legally conduct same sex marriages in this country.
Wishing you the most wonderful wedding day.

Groom doesn't want to make a speech, what do I do?

My Groom is terrified of making a speech at our wedding and has therefore refused to do so. And i highly doubt the best man will also. The maid of honor is also scared of public speaking but is happy to over come her fear to say a little something. Suggestions to even thing out?

Make him do it! lol. I mean it doesn't have to be a long drawn out speech (and your guests would probably appreciate that it's not!). He could literally just thank everybody for coming and then sit down. I'm personally a big fan of the bride making a speech anyway. I don't like it at weddings when the bride doesn't get to say anything. It feels a bit archaic and a bit patriachal.
I think the perfect compromise would be for your partner to make a super brief speech thanking everybody and then you could do the longer speech! I think it always great to hear from the bride at a wedding. She is silenced too often!
