OVERVIEW

I’m an experienced, open-minded marriage celebrant who believes your ceremony should feel like you—not a generic script read off a clipboard.

I take the time to really get to know my couples: how you met, what makes you laugh, what drives each other mad (in a loving way), and what your love actually looks like day-to-day. The result? A ceremony that sounds like I’ve known you forever—personal, heartfelt, and sprinkled with just the right amount of cheek.

I’m passionate about creating ceremonies that feel relaxed, inclusive, and meaningful. Whether you’re after something traditional with a twist, modern and fun, or completely outside the box, I’m here for it. No judgement, no clichés—just a ceremony that tells your story in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable.

If you want a celebrant who’s professional yet playful, deeply respectful yet never stiff, and genuinely invested in making your ceremony one of the best moments of your day, then we’ll get along beautifully.

About

I’ve been a marriage celebrant since 2013. It’s not my full-time job—I also work in the construction industry—so I’m organised, practical, and calm under pressure. Outside of weddings, I captain my cricket team, stay involved in local footy, spend time with my partner and step-kids, and travel whenever I can. I bring real life experience, warmth, and genuine care to every ceremony.

FAQ

Yes, I have my own PA system and stand, it can be used for music during the ceremony.

Ceremony length varies depending on what you want included. I’ve done ceremonies as short as 4 minutes and as long as 26 minutes, but most couples choose something around 20 minutes—long enough to feel meaningful, without dragging on.

Honestly, it all depends on the couples. Some want to meet 5-6 times before the ceremony (including rehearsal) some want to meet once or twice. I am flexible with meeting couples as I understand it's part of the job and I'm here to make things easier on you both.

A $200 deposit is required, and payment is due one week before your ceremony.

My fee is $950. This covers our meetings, getting to know you and your story, creating a personalised ceremony, a rehearsal if required, all legal paperwork, and officiating your marriage on the big day—so you can focus on enjoying it.

This is an AI generated summary of this supplier's rating and feedback.
Couples consistently describe a relaxed, stress-free journey from the first meeting to the final vows, with a celebrant who feels like a warm, supportive friend rather than a checklist. The standout strengths are clear, proactive communication; willingness to tailor the ceremony with a couple’s love story and personal touches; and a calm, down-to-earth delivery that keeps guests engaged. Reviewers note thorough preparation, flexibility around postponements, and an ability to handle on-the-day challenges with humor and grace. Overall, the experience is felt as genuinely caring and personal, making the ceremony feel truly 'us' and beautifully memorable for all involved.

August 2023

Josh officiated our winter wedding in July. Although we have spent 23 years together, we wanted something special to celebrate with our loved ones. Josh delivered a very warm and down to earth ceremony, just as we had hoped for! So many guests complimented us on our choice of celebrant as he suited us in every way! Find it hard to believe when Josh says he may not be everyone's cup of tea. He is a wonderful celebrant.

Josh was just so relaxed and fun. We loved every minute having Josh part of our day. All our guest loved him too. He did so well and so professional working up against our little angel 2year old who wanted the stage on the day.

March 2022

Josh was our celebrant for our recent wedding and we can't recommend him enough! Our day was just perfect and Josh helped make our ceremony really special and memorable. He made it personal, funny and it went for the perfect amount of time. He stuck with us for two years whilst we got through COVID postponing and uncertainty. Alex and I had no idea what we were getting into, but Josh helped make it all nice and easy. He was also fantastic in the lead up to our big day. Thanks so much Josh!

Josh was amazing! He made the whole experience fun and stress free and provided a great vibe on the day. He was professional but fun and we were just all round very happy with him and the experience we had.

Josh is actually the best. He keeps things so simple and makes it all about you and your partner. He was fun, confident and easy going. Our ceremony was a perfect blend of us, he stood back so that we could focus on each other and it sounds so small, but was something I so appreciate in hindsight. Leading up to the wedding Josh was easy to communicate with, nothing was too complicated and everything was explained in very easy to understand terms, you don't normally pay attention to the small details of other peoples weddings but Josh made sure we knew what options were out there so we could choose to do them or not, no pressure. We loved our ceremony, it felt like us which is what you want. Would recommend Josh to everyone!

Is it OK to ask a celebrant to wear a costume at our wedding?

Hello! I've read some responses to celebrants dressing in a matching style etc. Is it rude to ask if they wouldn't mind wearing a costume? I've read somewhere a couple got married by batman and then the obvious Elvis option.. I like the idea of an iconic character and think it would be something to remember but wouldn't want to offend anyone or make it a bad experience. TIA

Josh Connelly Civil Celebrant

Of course it is! Whilst I'm up to wear anything, covid hasn't been kind so I draw the line at figure hugging outfits! 3 year ago me would pass for Frank N Furter. 2021 me would pass for elvis in his later days

Do any modern couples still include the opportunity to object during a wedding ceremony?

Curious about this and how it would be done well.

Josh Connelly Civil Celebrant

No never have I ever done this, I have never offered this nor has any couple ever asked for this.
