What kind of photos would we need to be considered for a wedding blog or magazine?

I think it would be so amazing to get featured in a real wedding blog or magazine. Is there a list or style of photos I'd need to help us be in with a chance?

There are many factors when considering choosing to submit images to wedding blog or a magazine.

Wedding magazines and blogs can be highly choosy about what they feature. They are seeking out unique, on-trend and luxury weddings venues with gorgeous floral display and fashion-forward wedding dresses to inspire future brides and grooms.

Most weddings have tight schedule which means you must let your photographer know of your plan as they will need to organise a proper wedding timetable, wedding photograph style, lights and assistant, venue and location etc.

Most magazines that have been taken by myself or Jake always accept the shots for their editorial. Jake and I's shots are featured in many magazines in New York and here. The Knot, Cosmo Bride, Harpers Bazaar and most recently Vogue Brides.

At West Coast Weddings we feature "Real Wedding Blogs" on our website. However, for magazine submission you really need to have great light, great location, great looking couple and the time to be truly creative to get those "WOW" shots. Most weddings have a tight schedule and time is precious, so generally those awesine wedding magazine shots are what we call "Style Shoots" rather than able to be gained during a "real wedding". But if you really want it, have your photographer work it into your schedule and give them the time they need to WOW you!

While there is no set list of photos that you need to be in with a chance of having your wedding published, if you are wanting to have your wedding photo's submitted to a magazine or blog there area few things that I would strongly reccomend you do before your big day.

1. Research the Magazine, Website or Blog that you are wanting to submit to as they will all have personalised information and submittion tips for you to follow.

2. Let your photographer know that you are wanting to submit your photos before your big day. Planning, Locations and Lighting  and having a great visual insite into your whole day is KEY!

3. Make sure that your wedding has a great asthetic and a that flows through the whole day. From your make up and bridesmaids dresses, colour scheme and invtations to the overall location and centerpieces.

Enjoy this amaing adventure and good luck!! xx

As long as your wedding shows your day, your way and you have a story that can be represented visually there is a magazine for you. Connection and colour are the the biggest themes when it comes to being selected online so if your photos show a variety of these main themes and the story you write matches.

There are websites like Matchology that allow you to submit your work to the world's most recognised wedding blogs or you can opt for businesses that are local to your area like the Fold Southern Highlands, Easy Weddings to submit your wedding that will get recognised throughout Australia or if you are considering a theme thats quite out there then something like Rock n Roll Bride could be a good option. Also it really helps out if you tag your suppliers as they will generally re-share this and this will get you more exposure which then usually leads the blogs/magazines to highlight this in their social media.

When considering submitting images to a wedding magazine or blog, it is important to have unique styling, great lighting and colour palette, a heart warming story with visual emotion and photographs of all the details. Don't take it personally if your images are not chosen. It may just not be what they are looking for that particular month.

The most important thing is to have an aesthetic wedding.  As a photographer I can take some nice pics anywhere, but GREAT pics that will get a run in a magazine require great location, good light, good looking bridal party, etc.

It also depends which wedding magazine.  Some of them are desperate for more content, and others might have a line-up of submissions.

Finally, if you can provide quality written content to go with it, it makes their job infinitely easier and they're more likely to use your story.

Your magazine or blog of choice likely has a submissions requirements page, and on that page they give a fairly good overview of the style and type of content they are after. It would be worth mentioning this to your photographer ahead of time so that on the day they can shoot consciously in favour of the style of shots that your mag/blog prefer.

Generally coverage from across the day is favored, so if you have your photographer for 7+ hours you would likely have the range covered. Getting ready shots through to reception dance floor shots give a great overview of the style and vibe of the day.

As I am sure you know, particularly with magazine submissions, these things are never guaranteed even if you tick all the boxes, it's up to the discretion of the content selector. I actually picked my photographer from the magazine I was hoping to get in to and was lucky enough that that may also have helped as the mag team were used to submissions from them. We were published in HM in 2017. Goodluck!
