Jess McDermott found her future husband Rohan Doyle in aisle three next to the bread.
OK, well, maybe not exactly, but they did meet while working a supermarket during their time at university. The Melbourne pair, aged 27 and 31 respectively, were then engaged eight years later. Soon after, they began planning their vineyard wedding for December 6, 2014, at Immerse Winery.
“From the beginning of the wedding planning, all I wanted was to throw one big party with our closest friends and family,” smiles Jess. “You hear all the stories about ‘bridezillas’ losing the plot and I was adamant that everyone would have a great time.” Sure enough, come the big day and Jess was cool as a cucumber. “I spent a large portion of my wedding morning sitting in the big empty spa fully clothed and drinking champagne. I could not have been more relaxed!”
Jess called on her mum, who runs a high tea and event hire business, to help with the simplistic but elegant decorations. “I love the simplicity and elegance of white flowers and candlelight and this is what I based my theme around,” explains Jess. “Mum spent the wedding morning making a hanging floral centrepiece for the room.”

Jess surprised Rohan with a little note that read ‘I can’t wait to kiss you,’ delivered cheekily during the ceremony by her first bridesmaid!
“Being happy and feeling beautiful on the day was everything,” says Jess.
“The girls at Immerse were like a well-oiled machine!” praises Jess.
“I decided from the start to get as many vendors as I could to deliver to the venue themselves,” comments Jess. “One less thing you have to worry about on the day.”
