OVERVIEW

An American DJ based in Noosa since 2018, Stevie G, began his musical path as a musician, record collector, and DJ over 30 years ago in Washington, DC. He appreciates the fact that musical taste is subjective so he makes it a priority to really understand what personal music choices will make the couple happiest from reception to party in order to curate a bespoke playlist no matter what the vibe.

Using an extensive collection of tracks along with the incomparable experience, intuition and technical ability to put it all together, Stevie G creates a musical tapestry that is unique to each couple’s experience and guaranteed to elevate them seamlessly from reception to First Dance to the hands up in the air finale.

Stevie G comes backed by a wealth of high-level, international experience. A Bali resident for 15 years, he was the longest-running resident DJ at the world-renowned Ku De Ta restaurant and bar in Seminyak, Bali from 2002 to 2018, where for the first four years of this residency, Stevie was flown over from the USA specifically as an imported high season DJ. Also an original resident at the iconic Potato Head Beach Club in Bali since 2010, Stevie was hand-picked as the opening DJ for a number of their big festivals where he opened for a variety of big-name artists including Snoop Dog, Grace Jones, Fat Boy Slim, Disclosure, Kid Cudi, Foster the People among others.

Every wedding booking begins with an in-depth meeting where you can discuss the specific requirements of your celebration, as well as your personal musical tastes. You’ll find Stevie to be warm and accommodating with a willingness to blend your personal song requests into a unique mix created just for you.

Stevie G was the perfect fit for our MV Catalina wedding, and we couldn’t imagine our day without him. From the first point of contact, Stevie was easy to talk to. He took the time to clarify what music we wanted and nailed the brief perfectly on the night. We had guests from 16 – 60, and everyone had a ball! I would definitely hire Stevie G again for any Noosa function and highly recommend him for his professionalism and expertise. Thanks so much, Stevie G!” — Tom + Emma

“We always say that an amazing DJ will be in charge of turning a great wedding into an absolutely Epic Wedding, and we have DJ Stevie G to thank for that. We have been working with Stevie since 2011 and just love the fact he will work with the clients brief, and musically build the event during the night. We know just how important it is to get the music right on the night, and we have no hesitation in recommending him for any event.” — The Global Wedding Gals / Bali

About

From playing in 90’s touring bands to a 15-year stint in Bali as a full time DJ to continuing this legacy in Australia, I have been blessed to be able to make a living doing what I love - playing music! It was a big transition having 2 kids that led to our move in 2018 from Bali to Noosa, where my wife is from and where we got married in 2016 but I consider myself to be very lucky to live and work in such an incredibly beautiful place as the Sunshine coast where it's warm and the surf is up!

FAQ

While there are many similarities with most, no two weddings are alike. Some of the factors that I consider when providing a quote include location, hours, music brief, additional PA or services, etc. As long as I have a good idea of what the event will be like I am able to provide a prompt quote in order to accomodate most budgets.

In my experience, one thing is 100% guaranteed to happen: the running sheet runs late. After seating, dining and speeches, there is typically 1 - 1.5 hours left for dancing. Which is why I always recommend a standard 5 hour booking. This allows time for reception vibes at the beginning followed by a solid dinner set, cake cutting, first dance then party. I have a 3 hour minimum and while I have enough music and stamina to play for days, 10 hours is my current record. I am also happy to extend on the night with cost according to the same base rate originally quoted.

Yes, I have a full high quality DJ equipment and PA for up to 200 pax (with access to more sound if needed) as well as dancefloor party lights. If outside the general Noosa area I factor travel into the quote so there are no additional costs involved.

Yes, currently I hold DJ residencies from Friday - Sunday at local venues including The Catalina, Rococo, Mr. Drifter and Moto, and I also play at special events at public venues on occasion. While the music at play at these residencies may not necessarily be what I would play at a wedding, it does show my ability to combine different types of music together to crate a vibe. If you'd like to hear me as a possible MC, I have a weekly music show called The Full Monty on local community radio station NoosaFM 101.3 from 6 - 8am (AEST) every Saturday morning. The show is not archived so can only be heard live via the radio or streaming on www.noosafm.org. I was also the presenter and co-producer of the internationally syndicated Ku De Ta Radio show for many years. Archived shows can be heard on: www.mixcloud.com/kudetaradio/

Of course. Music preference is something I address early on by asking the couple to eventually submit a reference playlist of a few track names or artists that they like (for any time of the night from reception to dance party) which I then include with similar tracks that I know will work on the night. Last minute requests are also not a problem with my full musical arsenal of tens of thousands on tracks that I always have on hand. And on the rare occasion that I don't, I am able to always download high quality tracks instantaneously via the internet so no one is ever disappointed.

While most couples prefere to have someone familiar MC their event, I have a wireless mic and am happy to do this at any time as long as I have a running sheet and any pertinent information needed for announcements.

Yes, I have over 20 recordings of live mixes from 2012 - present that feature a span of musical genres. These can be heard via waveplayer on my website

'Melali' is slang word in Balinese that means, 'just cruising.'  I wanted an original name and liked the sound and meaning of melali so thus a DJ company was born!

Is it OK to have a do-not-play list at our wedding?

Hi there. There are some songs I really don't want played at our wedding but I know some of my family will request it. Can I give our DJ a list of these songs - but how do they handle it with the guests? I don't want to offend anyone.

Stevie G

Hi,

Thanks for the inquiry. Of course you can make list of songs you don't wish to hear at your celebration

Getting song requests is a part of being a DJ and dealing with these requests tactfully is also part of the job. The simplest and most diplomatic response is to simply say that it wasn't on the play list from the couple therefore I don't have it on the night. Which also happens to be the truth. As they can't prove otherwise they might sometimes get a bit huffy, but then eventually just walk away and soon forget about it. No harm, no foul, no annoying songs.

Hope that answers your question
