6 months to one year would be the best time for designing a gown, depending on the months of the year, if there is a busy and popular month for weddings, I rather to get the order a bit earlier.
Semi-couture: Choose your own design, fabric, or lace with measurements taken, it might need minor alterations and lower costs than couture.
Couture gown: choose your own design, fabric, lace, or any detailing, have 3-7 fittings, there is no need for alteration, and the design in the middle of fittings can modified, do not need any alterations, more cost effective.

Get Expert Advicewedding dress alteration costs?
I have been quoted $2300 for alterations on a wedding dress that cost $3500, it need to be taken up ( 2 layers with small train ) a small area added to back to make dress more comfortable with a very small amount of beading ( approx 2 inches by 4 inches ). I feel as though Im being over charged but with wedding 6 weeks away I have no other options , what are your thoughts on this

I belive you should have second and third opinion ,$2300 is a bit too much for taking up the lenght of your gown.
Please do not feel any pressure for the 6 weeks to your wedding day ,plz contact as soon as possible to take your gown to show to other shops to get some more idea about the prises.

How much do basic wedding dress alterations usually cost?

It depends on your alteration , how many hours work is involved , how many layers of fabric has to be cut to adjust the hem ! The best way is approaching your nomination store Alteration store or wedding designer to give you estimated quote to alter your gown.
I have Alteration shop next to my bridal shop and we meet client in the alteration store and look what it needs to be done . As a professional designer and attention to detail altering a wedding gown is very easy for us because we customise gowns and make gowns of the rack as well , therefore alteration is very easy job for any bridal designer.

Wedding dresses: where to start?
I'm the first of my friends (and family!) to marry so I have no idea what I'm doing! I've been looking at websites but they seem to flaunt a particular body shape, newest trends (NO interest there), and no prices. How am I supposed to figure out which stores i should actually make appointments with? I should mention, I hate shopping and would rather not go to more than 1 or 2 stores (or spend more than a couple of hours doing this), and do NOT want to spend a fortune

what kind of wedding such as Garden wedding ,beach wedding or church wedding having ?
Second how much budget is for your wedding dress?
Thirdly, find out what kind of style suites your shape? according to your shape choose your fabric and style then book some shops which carrying dresses as similar budgets as you have in your mind ,if you don’t find any thing suited you ,just book a designer to design you a beautiful gown which will bring out your personality and shape in your budget as you wish ,as long as having realistic budget ))) Remember after ordering off the rack gowns you will need alterations might blow out your budget any way!
