OVERVIEW

'Celebrate You' by Sue Jennings offers a personalised celebrant service for your special day. I will carefully craft a unique ceremony for your wedding, commitment, vow renewal or naming day. This is your day, let's make it about you!

Welcome to Celebrate You!

It is important to find the right celebrant, so let’s get to know each other and Celebrate you! This is your day!

Whether it is an extravagant wedding ceremony, personal vow renewal, or special naming day, I will craft each element with care.

As your celebrant I will take the time to know who you are as a couple, to understand your connection, what you truly love, adore and sometimes tolerate about each other.

I will work with you to ensure that when your special day arrives, you are at ease, knowing that your beautiful ceremony will set the tone for a fabulous day.

As your celebrant, I will support, guide and facilitate your special day. My sensitive nature means that I genuinely care, I will ensure that your ceremony represents you because my goal is to make you shine.

By nature, I am warm, sincere and a bit of a perfectionist. This means that I will craft a ceremony that represents your relationship and your style. Even down to the little things, like working with your photographer to make sure they are getting the perfect shot every time.

You may have ideas, readings, or rituals that you wish to include and I will work closely with you to ensure your ceremony is exactly as you pictured.

Under the Marriage Act 1961, there are certain obligations that a couple must fulfil. As a registered civil celebrant, you can trust that I’ve got it covered and will make these legalities simple and uncomplicated so we can focus on the fun stuff!

My fees include:

-Preparation and lodgement of all legal documents.
-Meetings, all communication and rehearsals as required.
-Examples of music, verses, readings and rituals as well as vow support.
-Preparation of your personalised ceremony.
-Provision of PA system with microphones and bluetooth to accommodate your music choices.
-Keepsakes to include Commemorative Marriage Certificate and Ceremony Booklet with your personal ceremony script.

If you would like more information please fill out the form and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

About

I am an Adelaide girl and feel so proud to live in this beautiful state of ours. I have two gorgeous daughters, one was a beautiful bride 5 years ago and the other is currently focused on her career. I love weddings! They are such a special, milestone occasion in a couple's life. I became a celebrant to be a part of that magical experience, but mostly because I felt I could bring my strengths to a hugely important role. Your special day is about you and your wishes. This is what I will deliver.

FAQ

You can have and I would encourage you to have a huge amount of input to your wedding. There are certain parts of the wedding ceremony that must be included to satisfy the legal requirements, however, as long as these are included in some part, then I will guide and support you in creating a ceremony that is uniquely yours.

This is where I can help you.  I have a range of readings, verses, music and rituals that you can choose to include in your ceremony. The key to a unique and special wedding is to put your personality into it.  That is why it is so important we get to know each other, so I can craft something very personal, it will be more meaningful for both you and your guests. You may have a particular passion, perhaps an interest that brought you and your partner together, let's workshop how this may feature in your day. Some couples want a themed wedding, others want something very simple and for some, the more elaborate the better. My job is to help you achieve what you want your day to look like. On your special day, it's important to celebrate you, your way.

A celebrant's job is often underestimated. To become a celebrant in Australia, one must successfully complete a Certificate IV with a registered training organisation. The Attorney General's Department must then be satisfied that the applicant is fit to become a "registered" celebrant and this process involves a comprehensive background check, referencing and an exam. On a yearly basis every celebrant must pay a registration fee to the AG and must undertake ongoing professional development. Your celebrant has to maintain equipment such as the PA system, update resources and stationery including legal documents such as the official wedding certificate that must be lodged with the department of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Then there is the time involved behind the scenes. Most celebrants will communicate with their couple numerous times via phone, email and text as well as meeting with them to meet and greet, sight documents and rehearsals. The script for the wedding ceremony will usually undergo numerous edits to ensure it is accurate, appropriate and importantly personalised for the couple. This is just a brief insight into the celebrant role, which involves a lot more than just a 20 minute ceremony.

You must be over 18 years of age.  If one person is under the age of 18 marriage is still possible by parental consent as per section 12 of the Marriage Act. A Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) must be lodged with a Celebrant at least one calendar month prior to the wedding ceremony and is valid for 18 months.  I will prepare the document and witness your execution of the document.  You must present your original birth certificates or passports and another form of photo ID (i.e driver’s licence).  If either of you have been previously married, I will need to sight an original Divorce Certificate or Death Certificate.

To obtain a copy of your Birth Certificate or the Death Certificate of your former spouse contact the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

If you require a copy of your Divorce Certificate or Decree Absolute, contact the Family Law Court in the state in which the marriage was dissolved. For further details visit Family Law Courts.

  • If parties born overseas do not have a passport and are unable to obtain a full birth certificate, I can prepare a statutory declaration for your execution.
  • Foreign language documents must be translated into English and a NAATI accredited Translation Certificate supplied.

a. The ceremony must be witnessed by two people, over the age of eighteen years.  I cannot act as a witness.

b. The Marriage Act 1961 requires that certain statements are included in your ceremony.  I will explain this in more detail at our first meeting.

c. You must sign a declaration to state that there are no legal impediments to the marriage e.g. being married to someone else, the bride and groom being too closely related etc.

Most civil marriage ceremonies last between 10-15 minutes with an extra 5-7 minutes for the signing of the marriage register and certificates. Your ceremony may be shorter or longer depending on the content you would like to include.

Allowing 30 minutes from start to finish is a good guide.

April 2024

Sue was amazing to work with right from the beginning. She was always clear, super organised and professional while creating a deeply comfortable, personalised and touching wedding ceremony. Our ceremony was absolutely perfect with Sue’s touch, she went above and beyond to take the time to get to know us and our story to make sure that it reflected our relationship and love for each other. Sue brought so much love and laughter to the ceremony and our guests raved about Sue. Thank you Sue!

Thank you, Fiona, I really appreciate your beautiful review. I think we share that love of organisation and attention to detail. You were able to clearly communicate your vision to me and it was so exciting to see it all come together in the stunning Mandalay Gardens. I felt very honoured to be the one to declare you and Troy, husband and wife and wish you both a future filled with happiness and love.

Sue was amazing! She was exactly who we were looking for and went well above and beyond! She was professional, easy to work with, detailed in her pre-ceremony briefings and went over every detail with us so meticulously! She was the best celebrant we could have asked for and we are so grateful to have had her as our officiant.

Thank you so much for your very kind words Ayani. You both looked so in love and happy on the day, and it was lovely to be a part of that. I know it was stressful for you in the lead up, with you living and working interstate, but I hope that I was able to relieve some of that stress and give you exactly what you wanted for your intimate Adelaide wedding. Thank you for choosing me. Sue X

April 2024

Sue was absolutely incredible and I am so pleased that we found her for our special day! She is lovely and warm and put us both at ease throughout the entire process, which can be quite stressful when planning a wedding! We certainly felt that she went above and beyond in writing a beautiful ceremony and also giving us guidance on our vows and leading up to the wedding. We can’t recommend Sue highly enough - we only have positive things to say about her and again we are so lucky and grateful to have found her! On a side note, that’s just an added bonus, she is very beautiful and presents beautifully too, which is just a nice little cherry on top of who she is and makes the photos even more special! Thanks for everything Sue xx

Great communication & Friendly. Easy to work with. Lovely, kind nature that shone through in her personalised ceremony for our wedding. Went with the flow with our young children on the day. Loved that she even colour coordinated on the day and looked so professional too. Would highly recommend!

Mike and Anna thank you for your beautiful review. It was a joy to work with you both, you are clearly so in love and were so committed to creating a magical day that despite living in Sydney and marrying in Adelaide we overcame the challenges and made it happen. It was an honour to join you on the journey and I'm thrilled that you were so happy that I was there with you. Sue X

Friend conducting our ceremony

If I have a friend conducting my ceremony and a qualified celebrant there to do the legal parts, can my friend pronounce us husband and wife at the end?

Celebrate You By Sue Jennings

Couples will sometimes choose to have a friend conduct the ceremony and have the authorised celebrant there to "co-pilot".

The authorised celebrant needs to take charge of the legal documentation which includes the signing of the Official Certificate of Marriage on your wedding day and ensure the legal aspects of the ceremony are conducted as they should be, such as the legal vows where the couple, stating their full names  ask the "persons here present to witness that I .............. take you ........... to be my lawful.................."

At some part in the ceremony (preferably earlier)  the celebrant will identify themselves, usually during the celebrant Monitum which must be said during the proceedings.

The other parts of the ceremony may be conducted by the person chosen to basically 'MC' the wedding, this includes parts such as the Asking, the Ring vows, the Declaration "I pronounce you............." and the final introduction of the couple as Mr & Mrs/Mr&Mr/Mrs & Mrs or preferred new title.
