Should we have a band for background music and 1hr of "dancing"

We're having a cocktail reception that is shorter than most receptions so there's only about 1 hour for "dancing and mingling" We're tossing up if a band is worth the cost if they are background music most of the evening.

I would say save your money for your honeymoon, as your guests will be talking among themselves anyway and will not be paying attention to the music.

Any more questions, feel free to email me and I'll be more than happy to help you out.

There are some great "up and coming" bands that would love the exposure, depending on your style of music - it's just a matter of finding them! It also depends on your budget, and if you can spare the possible hundred $ for an hour, or if you have better things to spend it on - i.e. honeymoon

Hi Katie M,

Think of "the band" as not just for "dancing" but a way of setting the tone and pace for the whole reception. Cocktail receptions while shorter in duration on most occasions still requires a mood and your choice of entertainment will certainly assist in creating the perfect mood for your big day. With a cocktail reception consider a 3 piece combo or a pianist. They will or should be at the reception to welcome your guests and then the arrival of the newlyweds. The tempo can be changed up or down depending on the flow of your reception. If you require a "first dance" then this is the segway to the hour of dancing (as mentioned) and then the farewell. Just remember that all these aspects must be discussed and agreed in contract with your supplier of choice to avoid confusion and disappointment - consider engaging a Wedding Day Coordinator who will coordinate the venue and suppliers as well as develop, supply, brief and implement the pre reception and reception timetable for you so you can enjoy your special day. Have a wonderful day - your way.

Regards,

Kerrie

Hi Katie,

I can recommend a awesome band that I have gone and seen perform live. They are called Redtie Entertainment, they sing a whole different range of songs, from Jazz, Hip Hop, Love Songs and many more. You can contact James Johnston on 0448 966 093, he's a very happy, friendly guy. Have fun choosing some awesome bands . Thanks Treena. Treen Of Hearts
