Is there anything we need to consider/do differently for a weekday wedding?

Hi there. We're considering a weekday wedding, maybe a Thursday or Sunday. Is there anything ] different or unexpected we'd need to consider about having a non-weekend wedding?

For a weekday wedding, especially the Thursday option you mentioned, it's worth asking vendors if they have a discounted rate for a weekday. Even if they don't advertise this, it's something they might consider offering. You might also consider sending invitations or save the dates a little further in advance as you may be requiring that guests take a day (or two) off work... and may find that some guests aren't able to do so. Lastly, if you're particularly keen for a raging dance floor, you may want to check with your venue if they have an earlier end time mid-week (compared to Friday/Saturday).

Hi there, based on what time of year you are planning on having your wedding, and if you choose say a Thursday, things to take into consideration may include: public holidays, school holidays, leavers (depending on where you are getting married). If it is during the off peak season for weddings also, many vendors try and take holidays then, so your choice of suppliers may be smaller. You will also need to give your guests plenty of notice so they can take time off work if needed.

Hi Lovely,

These responses have essentially covered everything, I would suggest not only do you save on mid week weddings (Thursday or Friday being the best) but you will also save on alcohol costs as most people will return to work if the following day is a work day.

so weighing up the knowledge you have of your guests, you might be better off having either self provided alcohol or a beverage on consumption option instead of a package.

More of a money saver observation, venues make alot of money of weekday wedding beverage packages due to lack of alcohol consumption.

Feel free to message for further advice! <3

Hi darl,

Yes, the others had very good points, totally agree and relevant and I want to add one more thing is Traffic. It is not a huge factor that determines your decision but also important enough to include in your consideration.

From our experience, if you are having a wedding held somewhere in a major city/metro area during weekdays, the traffic could be an unexpected factor to deal with and might affect your wedding schedule, this is not only for your vendors (most vendors will plan enough travel time) but also for yourselves and your guests. This could include peak hour, school zone, wet weather and simply being jammed on the road.

If you are going to pick a Thursday wedding, make sure you know your travel time, your travel route/s and parking area, etc. The ceremony and the reception are better in the same venue or close location to avoid Thursday afternoon travel.

Hope that makes sense and could help your case.

Cheers

When it comes to planning a weekday wedding, there are several factors to consider and things that couples can do differently to ensure a successful and memorable event for all involved.

What to consider: Guest Availability

Couples should consider the availability of guests when deciding on a weekday wedding. While some guests may have more flexibility in their schedules, others may find it difficult to take time off work or travel, especially out-of-town guests.

What to do differently: Notify Guests in Advance

To ensure that guests can make arrangements to attend the wedding, couples should send save-the-date cards and invitations earlier than usual. This will give guests enough time to mark their calendars and make travel arrangements if necessary.

What to consider: Guest Experience

Hosting a weekday wedding may pose challenges for guests who have work commitments or need to leave early. Couples should plan the schedule carefully to avoid inconveniencing guests and ensure an enjoyable experience.

What to do differently: Plan the Schedule Carefully

Couples should think about starting the ceremony and reception later in the day, giving guests enough time to get off work and travel to the venue. A shorter, more condensed ceremony and reception can also be a great option for guests who need to return to work the next day.

What to consider: Cost Savings

Weekday weddings can save couples money since many vendors and venues offer discounts for weekdays. However, couples should also consider minimum spend or guest count requirements that may be harder to achieve on a weekday.

What to do differently: Thorough research

Couples should research and compare prices to determine if a weekday wedding will save them money before finalizing a date. Thorough research will help couples get the best value for their money and take advantage of cost savings.

Overall, with early notification to guests, careful planning of the schedule, and thorough research into cost savings, a weekday wedding can be just as special and memorable as a weekend wedding.

Hi Bride.

Yes, there are some things to consider when having a weekday wedding:

Is your wedding a destination wedding?

Do the majority of your guests need to take time off work to travel? Are they anticipating a multi-day event? If your guests' calendars are already blocked off, then you’ve got more flexibility with the day of the week you choose.

In Regards to a Thursday or Sunday wedding, there are two main difference between the way to see the party happening:

Thursday and Friday nights are still considered 'party nights. People are at the end of their work week, or they can get the beginning of their work done, make the event, and still feel like they have more days to recover before they have to be back at work.

On the other hand with Sundays you’re running into everyone’s upcoming week, and your guests' mindset may not be in party mode.

Some pros are:

You can secure your drem vendor

You will save money

You can draw low your guest list

Some cons are:

Not everyone will be able to attend

The party might not deliver the same mood as wekeend wedding (work hard, play not too hard)

Save the date/invitation will need to be send in a longer notice.

I hope that helped.
