“As it took us 10 years to get engaged, it was no surprise to our family and friends we took three years to get married!”

Amanda Hambrook, 43, and Kim Lacy, 35, met 14 years ago in Broome, WA while Amanda was on a working visa from the UK and Kim was completing an apprenticeship. Soon after the couple lived in the UK together, then set up a life in Karratha during the mining boom.

Kim says there was no real discussion of marriage or children, but after a decade together, he wanted to make her his wife. “I had a ring designed and made three months beforehand,” he smiles. “It was so hard not to give it to her but I wanted to wait until our 10th anniversary!”

They took their time planning their vintage wedding for December 3, 2015 and in the meantime had three children. “When we visited Caversham House in the Swan Valley and saw the ceremony location in the hidden gardens we knew that was the place we were going to be married,” says Kim. When the day finally arrived, he said the weather played nice for their ceremony overlooking the river. “Amanda looked stunning and my son Harrison, who was the pageboy, stole the show,” he smiles.
