Lydia, 34, and Sim, 38, were determined to celebrate a traditional Greek wedding, but there was one major hurdle they needed to overcome.

The bride needed to be baptised! It was worth the trouble, she explains. “Our service was beautiful and if I could have that moment back of catching my husband’s eyes for the first time, i would,” she says of their ceremony on October 13, 2018 at Saint Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in NSW. “As our guests left the church, they were greeted by Mr Goaty Gelato van which my mum organised without my knowing.”

The pair decided on a less traditional reception; cocktail style at Glebe Town Hall. “We set the room up with three long tables and people could choose where they sat,” Lydia says. “We had vintage lounges and bar tables and lit the room with strings of festoon and fairy lights and my favourite candle scattered throughout the room – Palm Beach Posy.”

Guests certainly didn’t go hungry, with a grazing table bursting with fresh seafood, meats and cheese. There was also gnocchi, Greek sweets and a coffee cart for later in the evening. “The oldies loved it,” laughs the bride.

“I love that the day before there was an army of helpers setting up for the best day of our lives,” Lydia praises of her loved ones’ support.

“It was an absolute reflection of my husband and me and we created a room full of love and laughter with all of the people we love the most,” says Lydia of the day.

“Paper Hearts kept the tunes flowing and there wasn’t a single person that wasn’t on the dance floor,” recalls Lydia.

“There were sore heads, torn ligaments, broken bones and memory loss the day after … and that has to be a sign of a damn good wedding,” smiles Lydia.

“My brother built us a beautiful bar and my Nan made her famous Tasmanian raspberry jam and tomato relish to be given out as favours,” says the bride.
