Long-distance romance led to love for Rebecca McIntyre and Liam Watson.
The couple met at their former workplace, when Liam, 35, travelled to the Melbourne office for a meeting. “We began as friends throughout that year, and after Liam was very patient and persistent, I agreed join him at Cirque Du Soleil as a ‘work colleague,’” Rebecca, 33, recalls. “After a wonderful six months of an interstate romance, I moved up to Sydney in September 2013 – and the rest is history.”
Liam popped the question a year later in a well-planned, picnic proposal that still makes Rebecca smile. “It was the best day ever,” she says. Liam had led her down to Cremorne Point with wine and cheese under the guise of attending his brother’s birthday. “Little did I know, they were never going to be coming.”
The couple decided to head to beautiful Byron Bay for their garden wedding on October 30, 2015. Seventy-five friends and family made the journey to witness the big day, held at The Fig Tree Restaurant.
“We were married under the amazing fig tree, with guests looking out over the view of Byron Bay,” Rebecca recalls. “The venue set the scene from the beginning – relaxed and intimate. A gorgeous spot, with a stunning view and the most special guests.”
The venue is renowned for its fine food and did not disappoint, while the carefully styled reception under the stars was a dream come true for the couple.
“The whole day was perfect,” Rebecca says.

Unsure of what style gown she was after, Rebecca is full of praise for the guidance of Brides of Beecroft, who helped her choose her gorgeous gown.

“Liam and I planned the wedding together and had so much fun doing so! We were super organised which allowed us to be so relaxed and able to enjoy it on the day,” Rebecca says.

Liam was dressed in a timeless navy wedding suit.

The stunning scenery of Byron Bay (and the gorgeous wedding party!) made for some beautiful wedding photographs by Richard Windeyer.
“We really wouldn’t change a thing!” Rebecca says of their garden wedding. “We just wish that the day didn’t go so quickly!”

North Coast Entertainment provided the perfect soundtrack to the garden celebrations.

The couple had their first dance by the pool with the Byron Bay view behind them, kicking up their heels to Asgeir’s cover of Milky Chance’s “Stolen Dance.”
