A backyard wedding can turn out to be much more than a simple affair when your backyard is a stunning farm.
Jessica Duncan, 28, and Scott Bascomb, 38, only had to look over their shoulder when it came to finding their perfect wedding venue. “We decided to get married at our farm which we bought in 2013, it has been in and out of Scott’s family since they first settled in the area in 1889,” explains Jessica. “So it was so very, very special to us and the family.”
The pair held their rustic vintage wedding on September 20, 2014. An impressive 180 guests joined the couple at Gum Park Station in Elliston, SA. Jessica and Scott took charge on many of the styling touches for the day. “Scott and I love everything vintage and anything that has a story, so we incorporated a lot of personal touches,” says Jessica.
It was a family effort to put everything together. The bride’s mother and grandmother grew flowers especially for the ceremony and Scott called on his mum’s homemade chutney recipe for wedding favours. “We used wood from the farm as table centerpieces and placed jars and doilies we and the family collected to use in the middle with tea light candles and snotty gobble [a species of shrub],” describes Jessica.
Scott and his wedding crew were dressed by Doug Watsons Mensland, Port Lincoln.
“We were married by a dear friend of ours, celebrant Tracy Kenny. She personalised our vows, readings and program especially to suit us,” says Jessica.
“We are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives at our farm and will gaze out our window every day bringing back memories of our special wedding day,” smiles Jessica.
