It’s a special day for many Australians, but Anzac Day is even more memorable for Haley Demir and Christopher Rohde who married on April 25, 2015.
Their Anzac Day wedding at Ramada Resort in Queensland’s Port Douglas was inspired not only by the day they first met but also Haley’s heritage. “Five years ago on Anzac Day I met the love of my life,” smiles Haley, 37 of Chris, 35. “What’s so special about our story is that I was born in Australia but come from Turkish heritage and Chris is as Australian as you can get.”
The Melbourne couple travelled to Turkey to visit Anzac Cove not long before they were married. “Both of us were touched by the events that occurred 100 years ago,” says Haley. “With our gorgeous son Ayden, we sealed our love for each other and celebrated our love in unison with the Turks and the Aussies together,” recalls the bride. Fifty-five guests attended their autumn wedding.
Haley says the convenience of having their ceremony and reception in the one location was an obvious choice with a 10-month-old baby boy. “Celebrating our wedding on the centenary of the landing of our soldiers at Gallipoli is a once in a lifetime experience.”
