Non-conformists Kristie Ainsworth and Dylan Smith wanted to do things a little differently on their wedding day.

So they decided to walk down the aisle together at their modern industrial wedding held at South Melbourne’s Luminare on May 9, 2015. “We thought that would give the day an easy feeling,” says Kristie, 25. “This was followed by plenty of laughs, drinks and lots of dancing at Luminare where the view of the Melbourne skyline is astonishing,” she explains. “It was a massive party… we didn’t finish until 4am!”

The bride’s gown with French lace and silk, accessorised with a sleek metallic belt, was custom made by Silvana Tedesco. Dylan [29] gifted her a Tiffany and Co. cuff to wear on the day, along with her Swarovski crystal ear cuff which she decided would be a focal point of her edgy bridal look. And because Kristie owns Rock Paper Scissors Hair Design, she was able to do her own hair along with her bridesmaids’ on the day! “I made my hair work around the cuff,” says Kristie of the statement ear-piece. “I didn’t have a trial, I thought I’d just wing it on the day. My poor sister stood there for 20 minutes with a back-mirror.”

Their unconventional approach to a wedding began with a fairly fuss-free proposal from Dylan in the front seat of his car on Christmas morning! “In true Dylan style, it [the ring] wasn’t wrapped,” says Kristie. “But my God I was surprised!”

The couple were treated to Australia’s only red stretch Ferrari for transport on their day. “My uncle knows the owner of Madness Limousines so we were very lucky,” comments Kristie. Alongside it was a black GTS Monaro.

“I love Dylan’s energetic look at life – he is a total adrenaline junkie,” smiles Kristie. Dylan says he loves Kristie’s massive smile and that she looks after him when he is sick!

The newlyweds honeymooned for three months in Europe.

Dylan, who wore Hugo Boss, designed his and Kristie’s rings, from Hardy Bros. “They are very different to anything, and exactly what I wanted,” smiles Kristie.

The cocktail reception catered by the Big Group included four food stations: a ‘Lygon Street’ Italian food station, an Asian-themed station, a grill bar serving anything from sliders to skewers and, of course, a dessert station.
