'Antonia' by Kate Halfpenny, London (Flora Romance Collection, 2016)
Kate Halfpenny weaves Brit cool with vintage inspiration to create truly stunning modern bridal wear. Bringing creativity, intelligence and versatility to her collections, Kate’s client list reads like the who’s who of the fashion glitterati. A trusted stylist and go-to designer for Kate Moss, Erin O’Connor, Emilia Fox and Rihanna, Kate knows how to dress and flatter the female form in silhouettes that espouse both timelessness and a chic modernity.
Inspired by the works of painter John William Waterhouse the collection evokes a floral romantic vibe, typical of this impressionist artist. Subtle, intricate embellishment complements the elegant form fitting looks. The unique collection weaves modern with vintage, still in keeping with Kate’s signature ‘Brit Cool’ style.
I was smitten and had the Antonia flown from London to Sydney on a wing and a prayer, hoping it would be the one for me - it was perfect for our autumn wedding (April 2017) and I felt beautiful. The swishy, elegant Antonia: large floral lace adds a delicate feel to the three quarter sleeves, and the high-necked, demure front makes the plunging statement V back even more dramatic. A timeless, trans-seasonal gown with a hint of glamour, it has a sweeping train with three layers - two luxury Italian silk crepe and stunning floral lace overlay – which drape beautifully. A size 10C in the bust, I had cups added for extra support, the waist cinched in a little and the front hem only slightly lifted. Dry cleaned through a premium wedding gown cleaning service, the dress is in immaculate condition and ready for its new owner.
