My favourite aspect of the wedding video is the couples personal vows during the ceremony. This is one of the most important things to get excellent audio of and something we prioritise in our videos. I am an emotional person so I really connect with the words and stories couples share in their vows. I also love capturing first dances, and getting dancefloor footage. It's fun because most of the guests have loosened up and love being on camera by the end of the night.

We do a few styles of wedding video:

Documentary edit: A 1-2 hour real-time video of your wedding, with ceremony, speeches, dancing and other important events in full. We pick the best camera angle for each moment and edit audio to sound clear. This has a natural feel - like a documentary!

Highlights film: A cinematic and creative highlight film with music, that tells the couple's story through the audio we capture on your wedding day (vows, speeches, etc.). This is customised to each client and we focus on what is most important to the client. We use shots from the photo session throughout the video and we organise the order of the footage so that it best tells the story. 

Same day edit: A video that we edit during your wedding day, that plays at your reception around 9pm. We capture pre-wedding interviews and use prep, ceremony and photo session footage. It is edited in a similar style to the highlight film.

In both of these cases we don't get in anyones faces, and stay quite far away, so most of the interactions are authetic. The only time we step in to direct is during the photo session to get a couple of epic shots.

I don’t let couples choose the songs used because we can’t purchase a license to use popular songs as these licenses can cost thousands of dollars. We license all of our songs through Soundstripe, Musicbed and Epidemic Sound so that the couple can share their video online legally. I don’t generally send the couple a playlist, because we ask the couple what genres they like, dislike and what wedding films they like to get an idea of the music. Some songs might be great but they don’t lend themselves well to storytelling. For example, I like to use music that will compliment and enhance the couples story rather than a song that will control and tell their story. There’s a bunch of videographers who do “marryoke” and use unlicensed music in their videos. If a videographer uses popular music, they probably are cutting corners and running their business illegally. I’d avoid the hassle.
