Set in Melbourne's theatre district, Fortyfivedownstairs is one of Melbourne's most unique wedding venues. This 19th Century building features a theatre and two gallery spaces to bring your wedding to life.

fortyfivedownstairs is a unique space in which to hold your wedding.
The theatre or the gallery can be transformed for formal or informal wedding ceremonies and/or receptions.
Guest numbers of 80-160 can be accommodated, and audio-visual packages can be arranged.
Note that availability is extremely limited, and is dependent on theatrical season dates.
Dates available for bookings are within the next 12-15 months approximately.

Ed Dixon by Cookes Food understand the quirkiness of the venue after over 10 years’ experience in the space, and allows the venue to shine whilst also providing an excellence of food and service that has seen them win multiple boutique catering awards.
With a team of passionate, personable and fun event enthusiasts, each event in elevated to a creative and vibrant experience for their clients. Ed Dixon by Cookes Food's commitment is to the deisgn of all event elements including, furniture, floral and decor styling as well as using locally gorwn, seasonal and ethically sourced produce.

Carli has been working on weddings and events for over 8 years and has produced countless incredible weddings at fortyfivedownstairs. Carli is a huge fan of this space as couples can have both the ceremony and reception on site - "you can have a beautiful ceremony upstairs surrounded by some of Melbourne’s best artwork, then head downstairs to the theatre space to continue on the party! The black-canvas warehouse style of the venue means couples can completely make the space their own".

Building History:
Until the middle of the 20th century, the building at 45 Flinders Lane housed the industrial equipment and cloth bales of the rag trade.
In the early 1990s, with Span Galleries on the ground floor, the lower ground warehouse space was first set up as a commercial gallery. Mary Lou Jelbart and Julian Burnside took over the space, founding fortyfivedownstairs in 2002 with a vision for it to become a unique curated space for both live performance and visual art.
For the first five years, exhibitions and theatre productions alternated in the lower ground space.
Following a successful first half decade, in 2007 fortyfivedownstairs expanded and took over the derelict basement of number 45 to create a dedicated performance space on the floor below.
