OVERVIEW

Natural and beautiful storytelling from an award winning AIPP accredited professional photographer.

My name is Paul Stevens and I’m a Melbourne professional photographer specialising in wedding photography from a fine art perspective.

I love working with couples on their special day, helping them to enjoy it and stay relaxed, and ensuring it stays a life-changing event for THEM rather than morphing into a fashion shoot. Just relax and enjoy the day and I will capture it in a natural, beautiful and most importantly, authentic manner.

I am a full member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography), was awarded a Licentiate in 2013 with the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photography) and am a qualified member of the WPPI.

I would love to meet you and to start discussing your day, so feel free to contact me and make an appointment to meet in my studio in Fitzroy. I have daytime and evening appointments available.

About

After working in design and art direction for over a decade, I turned to photography as an exciting career change. So as the path of life wound, I found myself photographing weddings and found my perfect niche. The more I photographed weddings the more I enjoyed the process and working with my clients. I saw that wedding photography didn’t have to be cheesy or cringey.. That it can be an art form, creative yet classic, simple yet incredibly complex, all in the same composition. And great fun!!

FAQ

I cover weddings in a very photo-journalistic style but I don’t think photography should be limited by a “genre.” While I’m very discreet and unobtrusive in my coverage of the day, I do believe that there is a time and place on your wedding day for beautiful, casually posed images of the bride and groom.

I also believe strongly in preserving all of the details of your wedding as this is part of what makes your day unique. My images of the guests at the wedding are almost 100% photojournalistic. I prefer to capture them laughing, smiling, dancing, drinking, and having a great time instead of looking at the camera and saying “cheese”.

?I am trained as a photographer, and prefer to focus on that one specific discipline instead of offering multiple average services. I have worked with plenty of great videographers over the years so I am more than happy to pass on their details to you.

Yes, I do! Every image that you receive has been hand-edited, one at a time, without mass-producing the results. I prefer to do all this work myself instead of outsourcing as I have a very particular style that I adhere to, and that I want to always deliver that to my clients, every time.?

?What are hobbies?? Haha. With 3 (adorable but energetic) little children, any time spent away from weddings is spent with them and my beautiful wife Alice. We have a fun family life with lots of walks, playing in the garden, and cooking together. Apart from that I enjoy cycling, carpentry and gardening. Yep, domestic bliss!

?After assisting another wedding photographer for a few years, I started out on my own in 2009. I am loving running the business, being involved in all the different aspects of it, and offering a personalized, high quality service. And still find it an absolute pleasure and honour to share in couples wedding day! I have photographed around 220 weddings to date.

Of course they can! It is a special occasion for them as well. I will never tell anyone to put away their camera or smartphone. Sometimes it can get difficult to get a clear view for certain shots, ie, walking down the aisle, so I might ask the celebrant/minister to ask the guests to make room for me, but that’s about it.

Paul did a wonderful job capturing our day! He knows how, where and when to capture those perfect shots and is very relaxed and easy going on the day. So glad we went with an experienced photographer who captured the whole day, provided many, many gorgeous shots, and allowed us to enjoy the whole experience! Now married, Sarah and I love looking at the photos together and especially loved seeing the selection of shots online on just day two of our honeymoon!

Thanks so much Melissa! What a beautiful winter wedding it was, and thank you for both being so easy to work with! I love the shots from your day, in particular the shots up in the Monsalvat attic, the winter light made it perfect! Thanks again, Paul

Does the photographer drive themselves to the locations?

Would the photographer come with us or drive themselves?

Paul Stevens

It is much easier for the photographer to drive themselves, so that way they are not restricted from leaving the location at a different time than the bridal party. Normally what I do is to leave the last location about 5-10 minutes before the couple so I can get to the reception and get set up and do some interior detail shots (while the room is empty). Hope this answers your question :)
