OVERVIEW

Beautiful, naturally lit photography by a wedding/fashion photographer. I love candid moments and real smiles :)

I have always been creative. Whether it be writing, painting or drawing, I remember loving getting my hands dirty and trying to create whatever image had burst into my mind that day.

At the age of fifteen I discovered photography, and fell in love instantly. From there, I haven't stopped. I photograph fashion, weddings, couples and families. I love my job and always strive to better myself and my work. I have a Bachelor of Arts and Visual Arts from Monash University and started my own business in 2010.

Weddings are beautiful. No matter who it is with, there is a lovely energy to them - happiness! The opportunity to be a part of your day humbles me, and I never forget what an honour it is.

I try to be as discreet as possible during the ceremony and reception - prefering a candid, photojournalistic approach.

During the photo shoot - my aim is to show the very real, beautiful relationship you and your partner share. I love couples that love to laugh and have fun!

Please do not hesitate to contact me. Tell me your story and let's create some beautiful pictures together!

I have a big travel bug and would love to travel to you for your wedding! If I am traveling long distances by car it is $30 per hour of travel after half an hour each way. If you want me for a wedding interstate, or overseas, that’s wonderful and exciting, but you will need to pay for flights and some humble accommodation!

I require a 20% deposit to secure your wedding booking. This amount is not refundable in the event of cancellation. Your wedding date will not be 100% secured until deposit is paid and forms are signed.

The remaining cost is required a week before your big day. However, please feel free to send partial payments as your date draws closer if preferable to you.

I have a degree in Arts and a degree in Visual Arts (photo media) from Monash University. In the end, however, the only important thing is that you like my work! I have been photographing since I was fifteen and started my own business in 2010. This is my career, and my passion!

I own the following: 1X Canon 5D Mark IV, 1X Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 85mm 1.2, Canon 50mm 1.8, Sigma 35mm 1.4, Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro, Canon 70-200mm 2.8, Canon 580EX II speedlite, reflector (gold, white, silver), lighting equipment with soft boxes and other additional accessories.
I have a 27’’ iMac, and an additional 27’’ screen. A tablet, and the newest Photoshop and Lightroom software.

I shoot with two cameras so I don't miss a thing when changing lenses. It also means I have a backup on me at all times.

Absolutely! Lets have a coffee and discuss any ideas or questions you might have. If you're too busy or live in a remote area - I am also happy to Skype.

Yes I have a second shooter you can hire for your day at $50 per hour. This shooter will be experienced and have a similar style to my own.

It’s nice to have family members and friends take photos, but if they get in my way it can be very frustrating for you, and for me! In the end I want to take the most beautiful pictures I can, and I only have a set amount of time to do it in. The moments in weddings that are the best can happen in a few seconds – and if I miss it, then you miss out on getting the photos! I would suggest if you have a friend that wants to shoot - that you have them only photograph the reception, or when I am not around.

Whenever your wedding is 90%+ planned. The wedding meeting is important so I know where I need to be and when. What I need to do, what you’re expecting and the general run sheet of the day. Usually this is a month or so before your date.

Generally around 80-100 per hour I am there, however I often will go over. You will receive all of the best images from the day.

Ideally I would like an hour to two hours with your bridal party (not including travel or family photographs). This allows for a wide array of shots and allows for everyone to become comfortable in front of the camera.

Approximately twenty minutes to half an hour should be fine. After the ceremony is the best time to do this, as everyone is there and ready to go. For bigger families, more time may be required!

Completely dependant on how long I am there, how many photographs I take, and how many edited images you are getting! But allow at least eight weeks. I do not like to rush and would prefer to take more time and have everyone be really happy with the results, than rush and give you sub-par work.

So it has reached your day and the weather has taken a turn and is bucketing down, saturating anything in its path. The important thing to remember is that we will get beautiful photographs regardless! Whilst it is always good to have an under cover location planned, we can also do some gorgeous shots in the rain! Perhaps think about buying some umbrellas, or gumboots? I always make do and we will still have fun and create some beautiful shots together!

I try to be as flexible as possible with my time, especially for weddings! Just talk to me on the day and we will work something out.

Posing seems incredibly daunting, I know, but you will manage! I have worked with many beginners– in fact there aren't many couples who have had professional photos taken before their wedding. I like to make the phoot shoot time as fun and relaxed as possible - and I think that shows in my work - genuine smiles are the most beautiful! If you are still worried, perhaps book an engagement shoot so you can get comfortable in front of my lens and get some different photos

It may seem like a good idea, but shot lists really can hinder the creativity and flow of the shoot. Let me know if there are particular shots you want me to take, of course – but generally speaking I photograph in a photojournalistic fashion, to capture your day. Family lists are a good idea though, if there are a particular combination of family members you just can't forget!

I have never missed a wedding due to sickness or any other reason. If I cancel, it’s because I am bleeding from my eyes, or some other equally as disturbing reason! On the very very rare chance cancellation occurs, I will find a photographer of consistent style and experience to cover for me. This choice will be approved by the couple and I will make the transition as easy as possible.

During your wedding day, I am on my feet the whole time, running around like a mad thing to make sure I get all the photos. It’s extremely tiring and my energy wears thin as the day goes on! As a result it is a requirement (and hugely appreciated) that I get some sort of food if I am there when everyone else is eating. There aren’t many photos to take whilst people are eating, anyway!

I am a vegetarian

All of your images will be retouched, which involves colour toning, contrast, brightness, sharpening and other editing processes. There are, however, a number that I edit a little bit more (30 for first package, 50 for second package) - these are edited individually to remove blemishes, distracting background features (if possible), and other processes to make them perfect for hanging full-size on your wall.

The finished images will be sent to you digitally in two sizes. Smaller files (for online use) and larger files (for printing). I send them all to your address on a branded USB in a cute box.

High-resolution jpegs (for printing) and medium-resolution jpegs (for online)

Absolutely! I work with a lovely album company that creates beautiful results. Price lists are available upon request - and I can bring samples to our meetings.

I am more than happy to organize printing for you. Just let me know what you are after. Alternatively, you are welcome to print yourself, as many times as you like. I don’t believe anyone should have a limit on their wedding photos. Go crazy!

Caitlin was so easy to work with from the first meeting to our wedding day. For somebody who doesn't like their photo being taken, Caitlin made the whole process enjoyable and fun. It was so relaxed throughout the whole day and the photos that Caitlin took display this. The photos from our wedding day are amazing and we look forward to looking back at these photos of our wedding day over the coming years. We would highly recommend Caitlin and her skills to anyone.

Is it very important to hire a professional photographer for my wedding day?

And when I am choosing, which questions should I be asking them?

Caitlin May

Well technically you don't have to do anything on your day. It is your day. You don't have to wear white, you don't have to have a cake, you don't need to have a first dance, you can have hundreds or no one at your wedding - you can ultimately do whatever you like. If capturing the day isn't important to you, then ultimately that's your decision. I know some people who just like their memories.

I know for me photographs are vital, but perhaps that's because I am a photographer and therefore a little biased! If its a question of whether you get your friend or a professional to photograph it then definitely a professional. I know a lot of people who have made this mistake and they are left with blurry, crappy photos with nothing to put up on their wall. If capturing the day is important in some aspect then definitely hire a professional and REALLY capture it. All that time and effort and money you put into the day, you might as well have a professional capture it properly, so in twenty years time you still have amazing photographs to look back on and remember what a wonderful time you had :)
