“Melisa was an amazing photographer at our recent wedding in regional Victoria. Very easy-going, wonderful to work with and had amazing energy to take photos of the whole day. Nothing was too much trouble and the photos are phenomenal. Couldn't recommend her enough, 10/10! Thanks.” Liam

About

I became a wedding photographer when I realised I was completely energised by it. Participating at a distance whilst in the thick of the action lets me capture all those intimate moments through my lens. I balance between being an introvert and extrovert, keeping distance, but guiding you gently along. I have a great eye for expressions and want to help you preserve the memories of your big day and feel all the beautiful emotions again, when you look through the photos for years to come.

FAQ

I work all over Melbourne and beyond, so if your wedding is based in a location outside of the CBD or Melbourne Metropolitan area, I can certainly help you.  If you list the locations and names of venues during our conversations, it makes it easier to get a clear picture of what your requirements are, and help in planning the photography times.

A few examples of factors that affect your final investment:

  1. Hours required for photography on the day - The locations of your wedding events can extend your length of time significantly. If your preparation is at home in the suburbs, ceremony is in the CBD and reception by the beach, this lengthens the time required for the day. The best thing you can do to save expenses is plan your wedding in a way that is the most efficient in the use of time. If your budget is flexible, you can always propose your dream wedding photography plan to me and obtain a quote for the maximum time you imagine you need, and cut it back if needed later.
  2. Final number of photographs  - There is a significant length of time spent creating beautiful photographs from the images recorded on the day. The time taken rises with the number of final photographs required. The length of time your wedding is photographed on the day will add to the time taken to examinine the entire catalogue of images taken, selecting the best photographs and editing images. I automatically remove images that show people with closed eyes, awkward expressions and so on, leaving the rest of the images for final selection. The best thing you can do is have an approximate final number of edited images in mind when discussing the photography with me.
  3. Amount of editing required - Removing unwanted elements all affects editing time. The best thing you can do is be careful with your appearance (wear false eyelashes if you want that look, rather than have them created later) and your wedding party's clothing. If your bridesmaids need to eat lunch after dressing, but before the ceremony, make sure you cover your clothing to protect it from spills and stains. Also, if you want your group photographs to have all guests present, let them know when you are planning the group photo to occur, so everyone is aware and ready. Whilst it is possible to add guests in later, it is always better to have everyone there in the first place.

I take more images than needed, so I can select the best expressions and nuances for your collection of photographs.

My processing begins with close inspection for your best expressions, poses and content. Next, there is cropping, colour adjustments, minor editing of blemishes and where possible, individual adjustments in images to bring out details and give the image something a little special. The process of perfecting your images takes around twice as long as your wedding shoot takes, as I am meticulous in my editing and will only give you the best quality work.

Long before your wedding, we will discuss your personal taste, specific needs and the plan of your day, so we all understand how to achieve the best results. Rest assured, you will have everything worked out with me beforehand, and have a plan for inclement weather too.

My wedding packages include professional prints and digital files in JPEG format. I also offer artworks for your wall, of your favorite images. If you have a particular package in mind, let me know and I will quote for exactly what you need!

June 2023

Melisa was incredible to work with during all our interactions! As two people who aren't the biggest fans of photos, Melisa was able to work with us to produce beautiful photos that fit our style, as well as capture a lot of candid moments throughout the day, exactly how we wanted. She went above and beyond what we expected both on the day and after. Highly recommend to anyone!

Melisa was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was very accessible, reliable, approachable and easy to communicate with. She did a very good job on the day getting the crowd together for a group photo and directed us well with our couple shots. Our pictures are absolutely stunning and we could not be happier with the end product. I highly recommend Melisa and she is great value for money.

is pre-wedding photography common in Australia like it is in China?

Melisa Savickas Photographer

Pre-wedding photography is not done in the same way as in China, and is not usually done on a separate day to the wedding, as it is in China. Of course, if you have a special location in mind for pre-wedding photography, or several locations you'd like to visit before your wedding for portaiture, there is no reason why you can't ask your photographer to accomodate your wishes. It may well be a good idea to plan your special pre-wedding portraits at the ideal time in order to capture the sunset by the beach, or through the trees in the gardens, instead of making do with whatever light you have at the time between your ceremony and reception. Photographers are light chasers, so this is a very important part of the portrait planning process. If you have the time and desire for a special session of pre-wedding photography, not only will you be able to capture the portraits you seek at the time of yur choice, but you will also feel more relaxed, without the the pressure of the wedding day upon you.

How important are photo albums? :)

Melisa Savickas Photographer

Wedding Photo albums are important if you want to have your images easy to access and look at at any time, and by anyone. Traditional albums are not so important, but modern photo books are a great option that allows you to make a large, special one for yourselves as well as smaller ones for your parents, as a lovely momento of the day. Photo books are cheaper to create and print, so more economical as well.

If you are not after an album that's up to you. With today's technology and safe storage of photographic image files, you can always make one later on. There is absolutely no reason why you can't stagger your wedding photography purchases, and spread out your expenses as well.

Why not ask your photographer about what is possible, within your budget and get an idea of how you can display your wedding day memories in the way that suits you best.

Does the photographer drive themselves to the locations?

Would the photographer come with us or drive themselves?

Melisa Savickas Photographer

Yes, it is my responsbility to arrive well in time for your wedding and I make sure I plan ahead with parking and driving times. I aim to be on location at least 30 minutes before the ceremony, to meet the bridal party and make sure everyone is calm and start recording the events of the day. You should not need to worry about your photograper's transport in most situations - there are always exceptions - like if you are in an exotic location and transport is limited, but normally, you shouldn't need to consider my needs. I am always there to assist, and have recently given a lift to a groomsman, who had an injury that prevented him from sitting in the hired car, as mine was more comfortable for him.
