FAQ

‘Documentary Style’ focuses on capturing the events of your wedding as they unfold. The photographer largely blends into the background, capturing the unique moments and candid images that occur during the day. Of course, I’ll always make sure to capture all the key moments during the day and the posed photos of the couple with their friends and family. But with documentary style, you’ll also get candid images like excited children playing during a lull in the reception, or Uncle Bill dozing off after the meal. Documentary style also means capturing the details of the day - a close-up of the wedding bouquet or the place settings at the reception. Every wedding will be different, and the candid images will never be the same between any two weddings, but I’ll be actively seeking out those photo opportunities throughout your coverage.

Packages are based on ‘time on the day’, starting from arrival at the first venue and finishing at departure from the last venue. Choosing your package will depend on what you’d like covered in your wedding photos. In general, allow around 60 minutes to photograph the bride getting ready, 30-45 minutes for photos of the groom getting ready, and 90 minutes for the ceremony and family photos (longer if the ceremony is a church service). If you also want couple and bridal party photos (usually taken between the ceremony and the reception, often at a different location), you should allow 60-90 minutes (depending on travel).

When calculating the timings, the time of the ceremony is usually the best place to start. For example, a couple want photos of the bride getting ready, their garden ceremony, the posed  family photos, photos of the couple and bridal party at the beach, then the arrival at the reception and some set-up shots of the cake being cut. The ceremony is at 4pm and the couple have planned to arrive at the reception at 6:30pm. In this case, the photographer would arrive to photograph the bride getting ready at 2pm, then leave that venue around 3:15pm for the ceremony venue. At the ceremony venue, there will be photos of the venue, the groom and groomsmen and the guests before the bride arrives, then photos of the ceremony itself. After the ceremony, around 4:30pm, the couple and their friends and family will have posed photos taken. Around 5pm, the bridal party and the photographer will leave to go to the beach location for their additional photos. The photographer will leave the beach location around 6pm and head to the reception to photograph the venue before the bridal party arrive at 6:30pm. After the arrival, the staged cutting of the cake will be photographed and any additional photos at the reception will be taken. In this example, the couple would need the Bronze Package, with 5 hours photography coverage (2pm until 7pm).

Absolutely! If a couple needs more time for photographs at their wedding than one of the standard packages, we simply ‘split the difference’ between two packages. For example, a couple have worked out that they need 6.5 hours of coverage to capture everything for their wedding. The Bronze Package at 5 hours isn’t long enough, but the Silver Package at 8 hours is too long. In this case, the time is halfway between Bronze and Silver, so the price of their photography will also be halfway between Bronze ($1000) and Silver ($1550) at $1275.

You’ll get all of the edited images. The photographer will take lots of images during the day. All of those images are reviewed and then edited. At certain times, several images will be taken in rapid sequence of a particular part of the day (typically this may include parts of the ceremony such as the kiss, or different angles of the wedding cake). In this case, only the best images will be selected for editing. There is no set number of photos for each package.

We will only ever book one wedding per day. It is unfair for a couple to have their photographer watching the clock because they need to finish shooting your wedding by a certain time in order to get to another couple. Weddings don’t always run to schedule, and you do not want your photographer trying to hurry you up or rush through your photos to get to the next wedding. Even if you choose one of our shortest packages, you have an absolute guarantee that you’ll be the only booking for that day.

One of the best parts of wedding photography is the unique style each couple brings to their special day. If you have a special activity planned, please let the photographer know before hand (ideally before the wedding day) what the activity is and when you plan for it to happen. This can then be factored into the shooting schedule so the photographer can be in the right place at the right time for you.

Untold Digital Media can provide photography or videography services, but due to the significantly different technical requirements of these two mediums, we’re unable to offer both photography and videography at the same wedding.

If you book a Basic, Standard or Bronze Package, there is no requirement for a meal for the photographer. If you book a Silver or a Gold Package, a vegetarian meal for the photographer is appreciated (not many people work 8 or 12 hours without eating!). There is no need to make a place at a guest table for the photographer - there is often a staff area at the venue where the photographer can eat.

When I got married a few years ago, we had a simple beachfront ceremony followed by dinner at one of our favourite restaurants with 20 or so of our closest friends and family. Since I couldn’t photograph my own wedding, we tried to find a photographer who would just shoot the ceremony and some posed family and couple shots afterwards. We had a lot of trouble finding someone who would shoot a mid-week sunset wedding with just 90 minutes coverage. Most of the time, the minimum coverage period was 3 hours and sometimes the minimum was 5 hours, which was far more than what we needed.

Afterwards, I realised that we probably weren’t the only couple who were having a simple ceremony, or a Registry Office ceremony. I also realised that the cost of a wedding can really escalate quite quickly and not everyone has an unlimited budget for wedding photography. So, I created the Basic Package with 1.5 hours of photo coverage for $350.

To secure your wedding date, simply pay a $200 deposit by bank transfer. Once the deposit is paid, no further bookings will be taken for that date. To discuss your wedding needs or pay a deposit, please contact us.
