Is a wedding album worth it?

Not sure about this. Thinking we might just do our own wedding album online but then again, we're not very creative. And do all photographers do albums or would we be finding our own company for it?

Cherish Photography by Tara

A wedding album is soooooo worth it. I have been producing Albums for couples for many years and it is always "the icing on the cake" pardon the pun. But it is!!

A wedding day goes by in a flash. Money spent, beautiful day had, memories made, vows exchanged. And an album gives you a touchstone to remember all of it and more.

Something to share with family and friends. And just to revisit yourselves especially when you are giving your relationship a little TLC.

What are wedding photography styles?

Cherish Photography by Tara

Hi all. Different wedding photography styles.

Hmm...here are some that come to my mind.

1) Candid. eg.  Capturing things as they happen with little interference from the photographer  Avoiding formal or stiff looking poses. You may not always get people looking towards the camera. This can be good but you also want people to be easily recognised and looking pretty good. eg. not eating food necessarily

2) Classic. Keeping the tone refined perhaps and carefully directed photos. Flattering to the subject. Though all styles should be flattering to the subject as much as possible.

3) Informal but gently posed. The ideal combination of candid and classic. Capturing moments as they happen and not excluding guests at all. Inviting the couple to pose for "romantic moments", both pre arranged and spontaneous

4) Artistic. Something you would expect your photographer to be looking for whichever style they lean towards. Could also mean fashionable. eg. moody lighting, dramatic backgrounds or landscapes. Magazine style. Also a willingness to try something unusual.

Mostly  I think that photographers would use a variety of styles to suit the feel of your wedding.

I hope this helps you when choosing a good photographer for you. :)

why do wedding photographers cost so much?

Is it mainly the cost of equipment and editing or are there other costs that I may not be thinking about? I want to invest in a quality photographer but I want to take everything into account when deciding on the packages.

Cherish Photography by Tara

Hi there Kylie and others interested in what contributes to the cost of wedding photography. You mentioned equipment costs and editing time as part of what makes up the price of the photography. As well as these costs, there are many unseen costs such as office and studio overheads, insurance, travel, time and of course training that went into building their skills.

Time spent working on the wedding is a large factor in the cost as a good photographer will meet with you at least twice before your wedding. Initially they will meet you to show you some more of their work and for both of you to discuss some details of your wedding. This is also an important time to see how well you connect with the photograpaher and their style and quality of work. And secondly a good photographer will offer to take some informal photos of you both leading up to your wedding. A great bonus to the package and good way to get more comfortable with your having your photo taken.

Photographers also take time to visit the location of your wedding and reception so that they are ready with ideas for great photos before your day.

And as you also mentioned, editing takes time and designing the right album for you and can take as much as 40 hours. The costs of the actual albums are suprisingly high because a good photographer works with quality album providers who build albums to last. Oh and not to mention that the photographer may be paying an assistant to help on the day which all leads towards getting the best photos from your day.

Prices vary between photographers due to their different business costs and also which end of the market they are aiming at. Middle range is a good place to start looking and get a few different quotes for quality at a price you cann afford

Best of luck on your wedding journey. There are many good people out there and don't be shy to shop around :) Tara - Cherish Photography
