Can anyone suggest any vendors for gold foiling on invitations?

I would like to have gold foiling for invites but am aware these come at an extra expense (and often quite significant). I would rule out letterpress foiling but am looking for a company that offers hot foil printing that isn't going to break the bank!

Hi Rachael, 

I think what you're looking for is "digital foiled" this still has the shiny, reflective look of "hot foil stamping" which is the letterpress kind, but is cheaper due to the technique and less labour involved.  The only down side is you can't print any thicker than 300gsm and often the stock is a smooth, glossy look, rather than the matte, textured stock you get normally for invites. what is a letterpress wedding invitation?

Hi Bride to be!

There are so many printing techniques out there, but Letterpress invites are known for it's thickness and tactile luxury. You really need to hold one in your hand to feel the difference between a letterpress invite and a standard digital printed invite, this would also help you understand why they tend to cost alot more than printed invites. 

Letterpressing creates an indented, almost "carved-in-look". It is made by taking your designs and making a metal or ploymer plate, a thick paint-like ink is then applied to the plate and then deeply pressed into the super thick card. When you run your hands over it, you will feel the indentation.

Not everyone can letterpress, it requires experience, patience and the right equipment to letterpress, even designing for letterpress is not something every can do. 

If you're thinking of letterpress, I would suggest finding a designer who has letterpress experience, and ordering some samples.

Should I send out new invitations if we need to change the date?

Hi Bride To Be, 

This actually happened to me, 2 weeks before my wedding day! I posted a smaller postcard size card out, that said we had a 'CHANGE OF VENUE". The design matched my wedding invite style, but not as fancy. I also made sure we texted everyone too. Hope this helps out.

Should you write the names and addresses on the envelope for wedding invites or should the company?

Hi Eleni, 
It is always a lovely touch to have your envelopes printed, especially if you feel you're handwriting is not the best. 
It is not usually a standard service, but an optional extra, that you can choose to have. 
We find alot of our couples like the envelopes printed for them, and we also include printing their return address as well.

Absolutely you can!

How can I ensure that my guests are there on time?

A suggestion is to make your ceremony time on the invite, 15 minutes or 1/2 hour earlier than the actual time you have booked in.

this should narrow down the chances of people arriving late and don't worry about them waiting for you, your the Bride!

Hi there,

This is going to be an awkward situation no matter how you handle it. Not sending her an invite is a subtle approach, that should get your point across, you may just need to be prepared for her to contact you about not getting an invite. When and if she does, you just need to be honest.

If I found an invitation I love online but is only in USA, can I have it re-created?

Hi, Congratulations on getting married, exciting times! We specialize in custom design work, and this is a question we get asked a lot. You can take inspiration from other designs you have seen, but you can't copy it outright. There are copyright laws to abide by and also design karma! We suggest focusing on some of the elements of the design you really love and then adding your own personal touch. Also, keep in mind, having a design custom made for you, maybe a higher price than the design you have seen and love, that has already been designed. Invitation trends are wild! (wood, perspex?) Will my guests be disappointed if I do classic paper?

Paper is still the most popular stock for invites. There are so many ways to make paper beautiful and to excite your guests for your wedding. Focus on the best quality stock you can afford, aim for card weight over 280gsm, something textured and a stunning design, then you're all set. Hope this helps.

When should you send out save the dates ?

Our wedding is 2.5 hours from where we and most of our guests live , and is in the school holidays ... I don't want to give too much notice , but I also don't want to give them too little notice When everyone eill have to travel and book accommodation.

Hi Sarah,

Save the dates are best sent out at least a year ahead of your wedding date. You want to give your guests time to book time off, travel arrangements etc...
It is also a good idea to include any travel info they may need with the save the dates. You can send them 6 months ahead, but keep in mind, your wedding invites should be sent out 3 months ahead.
