Hi my name is Maureen and I established Elle and Stuart some 7 years ago and its an absolute delight to go to work each day. I must say I now know what its like to be on the "other side" as I'm getting married in April next year I am in the process of designing then making my own dress....so much to do but it certainly has given me much reality in the wedding process. I'd be delighted to work on your gown and make it fit just right.

Can my lace wedding dress be shortened or lengthened?

Yes, in many cases lace wedding dresses can be shortened. It can be more difficult to lengthen a dress but there are options.

When should I begin my wedding dress alterations?

Its a good idea to have 4 to 6 weeks lead time when altering a wedding dress . In saying that though we sometimes see dresses that arrive in store late for many different reasons and we are more than happy to help with last minute alterations.

Should I wear a bra on my wedding day? My dress has boning so I think it will be ok ?

We always beleve a bra or other under garments can achieve a superior fit and there are many options these days which should satify your needs like adhesive cups and tapes.

How much does it cost to alter a wedding dress?

It is difficult to cost an alteration without seeing it on someone, in saying that most brides spend between $200 to $400 on alterations.

Is it ok to buy a dress which is too big or too small because I might gain or loose weight?

Depending on the style of the dress some are more straight forward to alter and are then more cost effective. If you are concerned about losing or gaining weight steer clear of dresses with zips and maybe choose a corset style as they are much more accomodating.

Maureen Bourke from Elle & Stuart in Altona did my wedding dress alterations (the dress was WAY too big and so many beads so it was a huge undertaking). Maureen is a delight to deal with and she did an amazing job. Some of the bridesmaids got their alterations there and we are all still going back to get her to help with other items!

Wow wow wow! I had a disastrous alterations experience with a local person I found on Facebook. 5 weeks out from my wedding and I was sure my dress was ruined. Taken up way too short and uneven. Then, I found Maureen at Elle & Stuart. She is beyond amazing at what she does. She was so horrified to see what this other so called alterations girl had done to my dress. Her focus for the next few weeks was to come up with every idea possible to try and fix it. She did better than fix it. It ended up being the dress of my dreams and everyone on the day commented on how beautiful it was and those that I had told before the day that it had been taken up too short, could not believe what an amazing job Maureen had done for me. If I could give her 100 stars I would!

That's a good question as the right fit for your dress is very important. If you have the dress I'd speak to the dress alteration specialist and tell them of your plans and work with them to achieve your goals in a suitable time frame, if you don't have your dress I would suggest leaving the purchase until as late as possible and if necessary alter then.
