FAQ

Most clients' contact us 3-6 months prior to their wedding, but many contact us earlier to secure their preferred date over the busy spring and summer months. A good time to get in contact is when you have your design and styling elements coming together.
If you have a shorter lead time into an event please don't hesitate to contact us as we are happy to accommodate you. We have been able to make a number of couples's happy, even when contacted the week of the wedding!

Cakes can be cut and served as dessert or coffee sized portions. This will depend on whether you are having other dessert options as well, and when you will be cutting and serving the cake. The shape of your cake, whether it be round or square and the size of your tiers will determine the number of guests that your cake will comfortably feed.
Feel free to contact us to discuss the number of guests you are planning for so that we can recommend the most appropriate cake size.

Sugar iced (fondant) cakes should be kept on a flat surface in a cool, dry place. In hot or humid weather these cakes should be placed in an air-conditioned room out of direct sunlight. 
Cakes decorated with chocolate ganache, chocolate shards or buttercream should be refrigerated. To experience your cake at its mouthwatering best, remove it from the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to serving to allow the cake to come up to room temperatures as the flavours of the chocolate will develop. 

Our cakes are baked specifically for each wedding. Flavours include chocolate or white chocolate mud, flourless chocolate, flourless orange, vanilla pound cake and traditional fruit cake to name a few. Each is covered in a delicious coating of either dark or white chocolate ganache and can be filled with a range of delicious fillings. They taste as good as they look!

The choice between fresh or sugar flowers is a personal choice, the team at Sweet Samantha are experienced at both and we are happy to use either sugar or fresh flowers in our designs. Fresh flowers tend to be more cost-effective but are generally not available in the large, fully blown designs that sugar decorations can achieve. Sugar flowers are handmade to order, and as such are more expensive.

Sugar flowers can be made to be realistic or life like in their appearance, or more stylised, perhaps to match floral details on your gown or invitations. You might like to keep your sugar flowers as a memento of the day, our team can advise suitable storage and display ideas for your wedding cake flowers.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sam and her cake making talent. Firstly, she arranged a tasting sample for us to have a taste of our favourite cake flavours and a sampling of her icing and finishes (I'm not talking mini bite size pieces, I'm taking 4 individual cakes. So generous). Secondly, she went out of her way to perfect her 'cube' cake making and realised our vision of a cube-shaped cake. Thirdly, she arranged for our cake topper and saved us $$. She was so delightful to work with throughout the whole process, and the cakes were delicious.
