OVERVIEW

Let's create a ceremony that is completely "you." Whether you are going for a relaxed and intimate vibe or a grand affair I will understand what you're after and deliver it in a professional and friendly way. I'm with you, I've got you.

Oh hiiiiii! Thanks for stopping by. I want to make your marriage ceremony PERFECT for YOU. I'm all about people. I want to know your story and I want to tell it! You deserve laughter AND tears! Weddings should be a true reflection of the couple getting hitched, so every ceremony I deliver is unique. Let's grab a coffee so you can tell me what you're thinking / planning / dreaming... then let's turn it into reality.

You can check me out on Insta: @thereallyreallygoodcelebrant or Facey: @ShaeSpryCivilMarriageCelebrant

Gone are the days when the ceremony was "just something to get through" before you get onto the champagne and boogying. A great celebrant will deliver a ceremony that is completely built around YOU, thus setting an awesome vibe for the rest of your day. With me as your celebrant, your loved ones will be raving about your wedding before the reception has even started!

A bit of what sets me apart:

- Let me help you with writing personal vows... all the pressure and stress will be gone, and you'll get to say (and hear!) some pretty nice things!

- You get to review a full draft of your ceremony before the big day, so everything I say will be just as you want it to be.

- I'm young, vibrant, confident and professional. I reckon I balance fun with "getting-shit-done" pretty well...

- My PA has capacity to play your music from an MP3 palyer or phone, or even a CD (how vintage!). I work with two wireless mics; a headset for me and a handheld mic for you and anyone else speaking during the ceremony. All of this means that every single guest will hear every single word. Even if you're getting hitched on a beach with the wind roaring and the waves crashing (trust me, I've done it!).

FAQ

For me, there are no “shoulds.” There are lots of traditions that most of us will be familiar with when it comes to wedding ceremonies: the processional, the “I dos,” the exchange of rings and so on.

But guess what… your day is totally up to you. I encourage you to include only what truly resonates with you. I want to make your ceremony your own.

The only aspects that MUST be incorporated into your ceremony to ensure you are legally married are:

  • Celebrant delivers “the monitum” - three legally required sentences including the definition of marriage according to Australian law
  • The parties to the marriage (that’s you!) share the legally required vows
  • Three certificates are signed by the parties to the marriage, their two witnesses and the celebrant

So, if only the legally required components of the ceremony are delivered, the whole shebang would take just a few minutes. Everything else is totally up to you! This is super exciting because that means we can make your ceremony exactly as you want it.

First, we meet up and complete a Notice of Intended Marriage and A Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marry. This needs to occur no later than one month and one day prior to your ceremony. I will need to see your original birth certificates or current passports.

Depending on your circumstances, there may be other requirements. Once we have had a chat I can let you know what these may be.

During the ceremony three certificates will be signed by the marrying parties (that’s you!), their two witnesses and the celebrant. I will send one to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, I will keep one in my own Register, and I will give you a commemorative certificate to keep.

Absolutely! It is certainly possible to have a celebrant deliver only the legally required components of your marriage ceremony. I am very happy to be part of this. Enquire with me for a quote.

Just make sure your friend or family member fully understands what is expected of them – it can be a lot of pressure.

I LOVE surprise weddings! Yes!

Whether you’re wanting to incorporate a surprise wedding into a birthday party, engagement party or some other occasion… I am bang up for it!

One of my favourite parts is coming up with a cover story so I blend in with the guests before the surprise is announced. So far I’ve been a Yoga buddy, an old school friend and a former colleague. Of course, the best part is the roar when people finally learn that a marriage is about to be officiated.

It’s important for me to point out that whilst you can keep your wedding a surprise from your guests, one party to the marriage cannot surprise the other party to the marriage. Both parties to the marriage need to be fully aware of what is happening to ensure consent. All of the paperwork requirements are the same, including completing a Notice of Intended Marriage no later than one month and one day prior to the ceremony.

Mmmmmaybe. For me, it really depends on what we have planned for your ceremony.

For example, I recently officiated a wedding where there were four young flower girls, five readings, the igniting of two candles and a hand-fasting. With all of this going on, it was really important that everyone involved could practice their part. Even seemingly little things like people knowing where to stand can make a big difference to how it all comes together on the day.

Once we know what your ceremony will involve we can decide whether to have a rehearsal.

A modest fee can be negotiated if you do decide you would like a rehearsal.

Shae was an absolute dream to work with. We couldn't have asked for a better marriage celebrant. She really listened to what we wanted (and what we didn't) and crafted us the perfect ceremony.

Shae was hands down the easiest part of planning our wedding, and she took it a step further by enriching the process for both of us. I didn't know what to expect, but when I read our ceremony for the first time, I wondered where she had even got that information from... she truly had read 'between the lines' and actually understood us... deeply. The day was amazing - she delivered the ceremony without a hitch.... she improvised when my attending dog decided he wanted to be heard, getting a laugh from the crowd - and when I missed the memo to kiss my groom at the end, another gentle prompt, another laugh. The ceremony was exactly the right mix of serious, funny, tear-jerking and traditional that we had hoped and asked for. So many people asked if she was a friend, as she knew us so well. People have also mentioned the quotes she used in the ceremony, noting how beautiful they were. She had the right gear, the sound levels were perfect, she didn't fiddle with ipads, she was there way earlier than needed... nothing was awkward - it was top level pro. We feel amazingly lucky that Shae wed us, and couldn't recommend her highly enough. ❤️❤️❤️

April 2019

We felt so honoured to have Shae marry us. She is the most gorgeous, warm-hearted, engaging, compassionate, lovely, fun, funny and genuine person - and brings all of these qualities to her work. Throughout the preparations for our wedding, Shae was so kind and dedicated to getting to know us, and working with us to create a ceremony that reflected us as a couple. Nothing was too difficult, and she was a wonderful guiding hand throughout the process. On the day, she was absolutely amazing, a calming presence when we arrived feeling a little nervous, a warm, funny and receptive celebrant, and just the perfect person to join us in marriage. We can't recommend Shae highly enough. :)
