Vows in a commitment ceremony are the same as vows said in a wedding ceremony but without the legal words. They are personal promises to each other so can be lighthearted, serious, romantic, funny.....whatever works for you and your partner. There are lots of samples to be found on the internet or on my Pinterest Boards which can be accessed from my website. if you are unsure your Celebrant can also help you write your vows but remember they just need to come from your heart and it is something very personal that is shared between you and your loved one. I'm wanting a Chinese tea ceremony in the morning, ceremony in the afternoon & reception in the evening. What's a good guide for lengths of time for these events?

Hi Kristine.
A Tea Ceremony normally takes between 30-60 minutes depending on how many members of the family you will be serving tea too. It can be done before the ceremony or after. I have even done tea ceremonies as part of the wedding ceremony. It also depends on who you want to be present at the tea ceremony. You may not want all your wedding guests to be present.
The legal ceremony takes approximately 30 minutes depending on what you want to be included in your ceremony. Your celebrant will discuss with you and guide you as to what you would like to include in your ceremony. Apart from the two legal components that must be included you can include what you want in a ceremony. It is often a good idea to have the ceremony fairly close to the reception so that your guests are not waiting around unsure what to do. Normally an hour to 11/2 hours between the ceremony and the start of the reception is plenty of time to do photos.

Once you have decided on your Celebrant after personally meeting him/her hopefully you have chosen someone that you feel comfortable with and confident of. That is great starting point for making sure you get the type of service you want. During the initials discussions with the Celebrant ask as many questions as possible and make your requirements for the type of ceremony you want known. Only choose a Celebrant that is willing to work with you and give you what you want. There are certain legal requirements in a ceremony that she/he should explain to you and must be included but other than that your Celebrant should be happy and willing to write a personal and fun ceremony This is only possible if you are willing to chat with your Celebrant about such things as, how you met, your love story, what marriage means to you both, what wedding rings mean to you both etc, as this information is necessary for your Celebrant to personalise your ceremony.
