Do you offer to help couples write their wedding vows?

Lots of couples (but usually the men lol!) are not sure where to start in writing their own vows. I always offer to help and can provide fabulous examples to get them started. I also have a checklist of things to think about to get the creative juices flowing. It includes:

  • What is it you love about him/her most?
  • Describe her/him in 3 words.
  • What is your most annoying trait that he/she takes in their stride?

As my own style is light-hearted and I love humour, I encourage them to include something funny. I have lots of examples of ones I have written or that couples have written for each other. I keep their vows secret but check that one isn’t one sentence long and the other 2 pages. It is best to suggest subtle changes so they are similar to avoid any embarrassment on the day.

What equipment will you bring (or require the couple to provide) on the wedding day?

My couples have enough to think about on their wedding day, so I bring as much as possible to simplify the ceremony. I include a great sound-system they can use to Blue Tooth their music; cordless mike and headset; their choice of signing table and chair to match their theme; special pens; a hardcopy of the ceremony script for them to keep; all the documents to sign (of course)!; usually a flower arrangement for the signing table to match the florals (I can also provide all florals for their wedding if requested) and I have been known to pick up the odd last-minute supplies from the shop on the way to the wedding!

About

My style is warm, friendly and down to earth and this reflects in the script that we craft together for your wedding ceremony. I laugh at life and myself so humour will often feature in my ceremonies. It helps relax and ground the bridal couple and keeps guests engaged and wanting more. I love getting your precious stories, personal qualities and quirks captured and combining them with readings and rituals that speak to you, and about you. My event styling and floral work will capture your heart

Deb was an absolute superstar. Upon her first meeting with us we had such a laugh and she instantly put us at ease. Deb was easy going and flexible especially as we were a covid cancellation in 2020! We finally got there in 2021 and Deb went out of her way to ensure that the day went smoothly. Deb did so many little extra things for us (she even cut roses from my family garden to include in my bouquet that she made for me!) she was a pleasure to work with and would highly recommend to anyone that is wanting a genuine ceremony hosted by a lovely celebrant.

Deb did an incredible job and was easy to talk to from day 1. She helped plan and make the day easy. Our guests also commented on the great job Deb did and the warmth she brought to the ceremony. Deb also created all our flower arrangements and I was amazed at the beauty of each one of them.

We were looking for someone warming and loving.. like a motherly character with a good hug.. that’s exactly what we found when we met Deb. Lots of love and support she was like part of the family ❤️ Deb also decorated our ceremony and did our flowers. This included our bouquets and buttoners all absolutely stunning!

I would highly recommend Making Memories with Deb to anyone! My husband and I can't put into words how amazing Deb was for our special day. Deb was our marriage celebrant, decorator (both Ceremony and Reception), did all of our floristry and went above and beyond with taking care of us. In the lead up to our wedding, Deb placed so much love and care into the planning of our wedding and she conducted our ceremony in such a comfortable, personalised and beautiful way. The huge effort and detail that Deb put into everything was noticed by all of our guests, with decorations ranging from vases, florals, petals, candles, chairs, back drops, signages... truly a "one-stop shop" for everything we would've needed, including our bouquets, boutonnieres and our flower girl's basket and floral crown. Thank you for making EVERYTHING so special, Deb!

Deb is a great marriage celebrant and a professional in her field. We couldn't have found anyone better. I, like all brides, wanted everything to go perfectly and Deb certainly helped in this. We also ordered the services of a florist and I am more than happy with the result. Everything was decorated amazingly. I sent her a photo of the wedding bouquet that I would like and got even better than expected. All the flowers were fresh and of the best quality. There was incredible support and care from Deb during the preparation for the wedding, as well as during the ceremony, and I am very grateful for this. She has a very sweet and kind personality. We were lucky that we managed to find such a wonderful specialist. Thank you.

When should we be booking a celebrant?

How much time is needed before the wedding to get everything done?

Making Memories with Deb

People forget that the celebrant is actually the most crucial part of a marriage, as without them there is no ceremony and you are just having a party. I would suggesting booking your celebrant at the same time that you begin to plan and look for venues. It can be up to 18 months before the wedding that the celebrant can begin your first legal document...so looking 2 years ahead to choose who you want is not a bad idea.

What should we be asking potential celebrants to make sure they're a good fit for us?

What are some of the things we need to consider or ask of a potential celebrant before we decide which one to go with?

Making Memories with Deb

As well as the obvious logistic questions about availability, cost, rehearsal, travel , PA system and experience, ...if I were celebrant shopping, I would ask them:

  • How do couples most often describe them in their reviews? Can you see some reviews?
  • How do they describe their style and what do they feel is important for a successfully wedding ceremony?
  • How do they engage the guests and put the bridal party at ease?
  • Can we meet up to see if we are a good match?

Can we write our own ring element into our wedding ceremony?

Wondering if the ring part of our ceremony can be personalised or if it has to be what everyone else has?

Making Memories with Deb

There are only a few legal parts of your ceremony that have to be said according to the law. The ring ceremony is NOT one of these, so you are free to personlise it in whatever way you wish. For couples who do not choose to write personalised vows, I often include some of the more traditional words in the ring ceremony such as: "Please wear this ring as a token of my love for you". "With this ring I pledge my undying love and fidelity, till death is do part" etc.

However the couple can write whatever they would like here or anywhere else in the ceremony as long as the legal vows and Monitum are completed.

Tips from our specialists

Just need a quote?
It helps to provide...

  • Your contact details
  • Mention your wedding date
  • Ask if they are able to provide a PA/microphone if necessary
  • We highly recommend organising to meet your celebrant in person if possible
