Let’s meet, and we’ll get down to the first order of business: what you want for your day, and how I can make that happen for you.

It's hard to find the right person to spend the rest of your life with, so when you finally do, you want to make sure the day you make that public commitment together is special. I reckon that's an event worth celebrating, and doing it right. And I'd love to help you do that: I'll work with you to put together a ceremony that acknowledges your relationship, honours the significance of the day, but most importantly is memorable and fun.

We’ll start planning your ceremony. Things you’ll need to consider:

Number of people, how many groomsmen and bridesmaids? Will we need a PA if it’s a large crowd (yes, I have a PA system available)
Location – indoors or outdoors. If outdoors, do you have a Plan B in case the weather turns?
What style ceremony did you have in mind: have you seen something you’d like to do?
Structure of the ceremony: how long would like the ceremony to last – too short and it’ll seem a blur, too long and people may wonder if it’ll ever end.
Starting thinking about music, reading or poetry that you’d like featured on the day.
Are there special people you’d like to be part of the ceremony as readers, witnesses or performers?
Do you want to involve children in the ceremony?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to look me up. I live in the Essendon area, work in the city. Growing up in central Victoria, I've lived in Melbourne for most of my adult life, apart from some spells overseas. Seeing happy people is always a joy in life, but having the ability to help people be happy is easily one of the most fulfilling things you can do. Getting married in Australia with Work & Holiday Visa (462)?

Hi All, we are going to spend a year in Australia with my boyfriend, having a Work&Holiday Visa (462). We are engaged, and plan to get married in Australia. Is it necessary with this type of visa? Thanks a lot for your kind answer!

Hi - congratulations on your engagement. Good news: your visa status does not prevent you from getting married in Australia.

As long as:

you are 18+,
can complete the NOIM in the minimum one period, and
provide supporting documentation,

you should be able to to get married in Australia.

Can anyone be a marriage celebrant?

Hi - I think we need to clarify your question to give you the best answer. When you ask, "can anyone be a marriage celebrant?", do you mean:

Can anyone apply and get the qualification to officiate?, or
Can anyone act as a celebrant on the day to officiate?

If your question is 1), then yes - anyone can study for the Certificate IV qualification, and pass all of the assessments, but they still have to complete a legal test, have three character references, and be deemed a person of good character in the community. As long as those requirements are satisfied, then anyone can be a marriage Celebrant.

If your question is 2), then no - only someone who has satisfied the requirements set out above is allowed to act as a (civil) Celebrant. There is a legal responsibility to make sure your documentation is completed correctly and your Celebrant performs in accordance with the Guidelines set out in the Marriage Regulations.

There are many Authorised Celebrants ready and willing to help you put together a ceremony for your needs.

can a marriage celebrant marry a family member?

I went to a wedding and the celebrant was the grooms father. Is this legal?

Absolutely - as long as the family member is an authorised celebrant, and is freely chosen by the couple, it's totally legal. It can be a lovley to have a family member involved in the ceremony.
