About
For most of my professional life I worked for the Education Department of WA. I have organised statewide speech competitions and compered showpiece public performances at the Perth Concert Hall. I speak clearly and confidently (the result of years of Speech training). Thirteen years ago I wanted a sea change so I became a Marriage Celebrant and have thoroughly enjoyed being able to use my expertise and experience to ensure hundreds of couples enjoy the wedding ceremony of their dreams.

hi, i just want to ask if me and my girlfriend can marry in Australia i am a Filipino Citizen and she is a Canadian Citizen. our problem is she cannot provide her birth certificate. we will only be there as a tourist cause i will be coming from Philippines and she will be coming from Canada, we just want to get married legally. is there any other options we can provide besides from Birth Certificate as a requirement to marry and if so what should we do first ? thank you..

Yes, you can marry in Australia if you are on a Tourist Visa. Your Fiance can use her Canadian Passport and Driver's Licence. Rosemary has indicated below the conditions for legal marriage in Australia. You must lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage one calendar month ahead of your wedding date. You can download the Notice of Intended Marriage form from the Attorney General's Department (or I can send you one), complete it, have it witnessed by any of the authorities listed on p4 of the Notice. The completed and witnessed Notice, your Passports and Driver's Licences can then be scanned and emailed to your chosen Celebrant. When you meet your Celebrant you must show him/her your original Notice and your documentation Ie passports and drivers' licences. If you aren't together one month ahead of your wedding date, one of you can lodge the Notice but all information has to be completed and witnessed before the wedding can take place. Does the marrying couple sign three commemorative certificates as well as the official certificate of marriage, or two?

As other Celebrants have indicated, you sign three documents on your wedding day. One is a commemorative certificate which you keep. You also sign two official Marriage Certificates. One of the Marriage Certificates remains with the Celebrant while the other is sent into the Registry Office with the Notice of Intended Marriage that you lodged when you first booked your Celebrant. Once your marriage has taken place it is also important to apply for a Registered Marriage Certificate as this is the one most Authorities will want to see. You fill in an Application form and take it, or post it, to your State's Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. It will cost you $49. I always make it easy for my couples to get this certificate.
