April 2018

Our ceremony was pagan orientated. My husband loves history so Philip spoke a little about the history of weddings in that era and explained what each ceremony meant. Our guests loved it and we revived a lot of compliments on how unique and customized our wedding was.

Can we still marry if my partner has an expired visa?

Greentree Ceremonies - Philip Greentree

Yes. Imigration status has no bearing on the right to marry.

can i ask my celebrant to mention marriage equality during the ceremony?

I'm still looking for one- but this is really important to me

Greentree Ceremonies - Philip Greentree

Of course I can. However, I can't stress highly enough that the requirement for us to read the definition of marriage aloud is not negotiable. It is required and must be adhered to. However, once that is done, I will willingly read the following words on your behalf. At several of my weddings there has been a resounding round of applause at the end....

"groom_name and bride_name have asked me to read the following statement to you. They have very consciously decided to marry and legalise their relationship in this marriage ceremony, but they are also very conscious that there are others in our community, who in spite of  the same love and devotion are unable to have such a legal ceremony. In their view, and in the view of many others, in a just world, marriage would be available to all regardless of their sexuality.

Bride_Name and groom_name fully support this ideal and live for the day when all their family and friends have the same privilege.”

who walks me down the aisle if my dad is no longer with us?

Greentree Ceremonies - Philip Greentree

Anyone can escort you down the isle.  Some couples think the escort is a legal requirement. It isn't. I find it quite common for mothers, or grandfathers to escort the bride. It is also not unusual for a bride to have no escort.

If you want to honour your late father, I have found a candle lit in a wind proof lantern is an effective way of remembering one's father.
