When I’m not trying to convince my husband to get our vows renewed… At home, you’ll find me poolside as a new local of the Gold Coast Hinterland sipping on margaritas listening to EDM pretending I’m in an adults-only Canggu Beach Club when in reality I’m coordinating a classic catches comp with my four boys under 8 and making sure no one needs CPR. You absolutely can have a family friend conduct the majority of the ceremony, but to make it legal, an authorised celebrant will need to be present, the authorised celebrant has to say the minimum legal parts, the couple will need to say the legal vows and two witnesses over the age of 18 years will also need to be present.
If you don't want any involvement from a celebrant then this becomes a commitment ceremony which is not recognised in Australia as a legal marriage.
