OVERVIEW

I want you to feel as relaxed as possible and together we will find the right words you are comfortable in saying.

Your Wedding ceremony can be at any time of the day or evening you wish. Beach, barn, boat, backyard or beyond – it is your choice!

There are so many things to think about when planning your Wedding. In the scheme of things, the duration of the Ceremony takes up a relatively small part of your Wedding Day – but in this small space of time, the words you say will be some of the most important of your life.

These words will not only bond you as partners for life, but should express to all your loved ones just how much you mean to each other and the importance of the decision you have made – to get married!

Before you know it, you will be celebrating with friends and family as a married couple.

Your Ceremony can be as long or as short as you wish. It is such a big day of nerves and emotion and some choose to say only the minimum requirements, while others have so much more to say!  Don’t worry, I want you to feel as relaxed as possible and together we will find the right words you are comfortable in saying.

If you are looking for a celebrant I insist you have a meeting with Sandra. There are no obligations and she can provide you with really helpful information. Sandra presented a really beautiful ceremony. She made the process really clear and provided many suggestions which made the ceremony light hearted but heartfelt. I can not recommend Sandra highly enough!

do you think celebrants would be up for flying to officiate a destination wedding?

would i have to pay for their flights accommodation food etc

Celebrant GC

I agree - most Celebrants would love to officiate at a destination wedding but you would have to keep in mind that all travel costs would have to be covered by you.

My interpretation of a "destination wedding" is overseas - is this the case?  Australian Celebrants are only authorised to solemnise weddings in Australia, so if overseas, you would have to make contact with the powers that be in that particular country eg Australian Embassy.  If married overseas, your marriage will be recognised in Australia as a valid marriage providing it was: Valid under the local law at the time it was entered into; and the marriage would have been recognised under Australian law if it took place in Australia.

Hope this helps and good luck with your plans!

Can we get married in Australia if we are not citizens?

Hi there, I am wondering if you can help me. Myself and my partner are currently residing in Canberra but we are not Australian citizens, we are English citizens, we are here on two year working visas. We are due to get married back in England in December but in order to make it 'legal' we have been advised that we have to get married officially here first. As we will be here on our own we only want something very small and personal, basically it's just to allow us to get married in the uk. Sorry if I have confused you as I appreciate it's a bit complicated but if you could let me know your thoughts it would be much appreciated xx

Celebrant GC

Yes - you don't have to be an Australian citizen to get married in Australia. Obviously you need to produce the necessary documentation to prove who you are, when and where you were born eg, original Birth Certificate or Overseas Passport to your Celebrant. If you do get married here in Australia, you will not be able to 'get married' again in England - as you have already gone through the legalities in this country. Your Australian marriage will be recognized in the UK - so you can't get married AGAIN in the UK!. If you decide to marry in Australia, a Renewal of Vows ceremony would be perfect to celebrate with family & friends. I don't quite understand why you have been advised "in order to make it 'legal' we have been advised that we have to get married officially here first"... perhaps it is something to do with your Visa. Contact your Embassy in Canberra - they may have a clearer take on all of this. Good luck!

Help! I need vows help, I honestly have no idea what to say! I love her. What else should I say?

I asked my friends and they said it'd come to me. It hasn't. I am freaking out!!!

Hi Melissa - This can be a daunting thought, but once you start to think about what it is you love about your partner - the words will flow! Don't worry if you think your guests might think it "silly" or "not right" - this is your day and they will love to hear what has brought you two together. Adding a bit of lightheartedness always keeps everyone's interest and it also becomes more "real". Straight from the heart is the best way - just think of all the things you want to promise your partner, as his wife. Your Celebrant will have lots of helpful suggestions, and of course there are the "Legal Vows" you must say. Once you get started - you probably won't know when to stop! Enjoy your day.
