To get married in Australia, you must:

  • not be married
  • not be marrying a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother or sister
  • be at least 18 years old, unless a court has approved a marriage where 1 person is 16-18 years old
  • understand what marriage means and freely agree to marry

No, you do not have to be an:

  • Australian citizen or
  • a permanent resident of Australia

Absolutely! I have travelled overseas and to Sydney and surrounding regions including the Hunter Valley in NSW to conduct marriage ceremonies. I'm excited to learn about what destination you have in mind!

Yes, as required, this is provided for your ceremony to ensure that is audiable on the day.

On your wedding day, three marriage certificates must be signed by:

  • the couple
  • two witnesses, who must be over 18 years old
  • me (registered marriage celebrant)

I will present your certificate of marriage on the day. This is a ceremonial certificate of your marriage.

Following your ceremony I then submit (within 14 days of the marriage) your marriage paperwork to the registry of births, deaths and marriages in the state or territory you got married in.

You should apply for a copy of your official marriage certificate from the registry. Your celebrant can do this on your behalf, generally at a cost. You will need this if you want to change your name or prove that you are married.

August 2020

We wanted a ceremony that described us as a couple in a short, simple, fun and understanding way. Our main goal was to engage our friends and family and we feel like they definitely were. We are huge Disney lovers and our ceremony had to have some Disney love involved. Kaylene gave us lots of friendly advice along the way and was always there when we had a question to ask, which resulted in a beautifully balanced Disney ceremony that our guests loved. We also have a love of dogs and it wouldn't have been the same without our border collie flower girl Pippa there by our sides. Kaylene understood the love we share for her and described it in a perfect way. She took the time to learn about us as individuals and as a couple. We could not have asked for a better celebrant to marry us.

Where is the best place to get married in Sydney?

Looking for a venue and celebrant then I will work out the rest

Aura Ceremonies

Hello, you can get married at any place you choose that is available; parks, waterside, restaurants, wedding venues. You may have to apply for a council permit in some council areas so be sure to check that out also. Enjoy venue hunting!

Does the celebrant have to do the whole "how they met" story?

I feel like that might be awkward for us. We are a super stong and stable couple now, but when we met we still had a lot of growing up to do (we were teenagers, and broke each others hearts.) We had a huge falling out and reconnected later. It was very messy and all of our fam and friends know that. Do we have to go into that when our life is so beautiful NOW, and has been for years now?

Aura Ceremonies

Hello, No. There is not one option of a ceremony and it sounds like you and your partner are in a great place. Your ceremony should highlight your strengths and celebrate your future. If you want to discuss ideas and options for a personal ceremony feel

free. Good luck. I hope you have a wonderful ceremony and celebration.

Is a person who is asked to do a reading at the church part of the bridal party?

Aura Ceremonies

Hello,

No. It can be a lovely opportunity to invite someone you and partner would like involve in aome way. You actually do not even need to have readings. If you have chosen a reading that is personal to you, you have the person in mind that would also add meaning for you both to speak these words. Best, Kaylene
