Hello, I’m Irene Jacobs - a professional and experienced Marriage Celebrant.

I love to work with couples from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

As a Marriage Celebrant, I listen to what is most important to you for your wedding ceremony.

What elements are a must-have, who do you want to be part of your ceremony, what concerns you most?

After understanding how you want your ceremony to unfold, it is my role to work with you to make it happen.

I marry all couples. To me love is love. I have had the privilege of marrying same-sex couples over the past year. One experience hard to express in words was the level of emotion and applause that almost lifted the roof off the Chapple when one couple who had been together for 18 years was finally able to marry.

To me being a Marriage Celebrant is the best job in the world. I get to witness wonderful couples just like you share the most magical experience of your life as you look into each other’s eyes and exchange your vows.

I love weddings. There is something so magical about seeing two people in love on a day that will live in their memories for a lifetime. I am married to a wonderful husband and have an amazing daughter. In my hobby, I help people to gain confidence in themselves when speaking in public, and I support my husband in our small family business making custom items for sporting teams. But my true passion is marrying people or acting as a wedding planner for groups coming to Australia to marry.

have you ever said no to doing a couple's wedding?

Yes I have said no a few times. A wedding is one of the most important days in a couples life. A celebrant and the bride and groom in my opinion have to click. On the few occasions when I haven't felt that connection I have suggested that perhaps they would be better with another celebrant. When I meet people it often feels as if I am meeting an old friend, or at least we are laughing together within a few minutes. I know that when this happens I will be able to support them in any way they need and we are going to have a good Wedding Day.

how long is too long for a ceremony? and do celebrants charge by duration of the ceremony?

This is your ceremony, so the length of time will be determined by what you have been dreaming of for your special day. How many people you would like to involve in the ceremony, family and special friends with rituals and readings? I find that people having a wedding with a large number of children as guests normally prefer a shorter ceremony. I personally don’t charge for additional time for rituals. My weddings range between 15 and 40minutes depending what my brides and grooms would like to include. If you are having a ceremony over 20 minutes consider having chairs for all of your guests.

If I am getting married overseas, will my marriage be recognised in Australia?

or do I need to have a legal ceremony here too.

Yes your marriage will be recognised here. If you are having a legal marriage overseas it will be recognised in Australia and no other form of ceremony will be required.
