We couldn't have asked for a better celebrant, honestly. To work with Amanda was professional, helpful, punctual, flexible, understanding, fun, lovely, kind, very well priced and just an absolute pleasure. On the day she was better than we could've imagined. The way she told our story was priceless, it was so well written, funny and sweet, it captured all the best bits of our love story and who we are as individuals and a couple. She helped with some things back of house and helped with the organisation of the ceremony and run times in the absence of us having an event planner. And finally, she was an absolute hoot, so many people came up to me after to tell me how great she was and how much they loved our ceremony. We absolutely loved Amanda!! If we had to do it all over we would choose her again and again and again, she is just fantastic :)

Amanda was the celebrant at our boho wedding and I would highly recommend her. She is warm and sincere but also organised and timely, with an attention to detail. An invaluable combination for us. She guided us every step along the way and we completely trusted that all of the complex, confounding details were safe in her hands. She effortlessly slipped into our style and was a joy to collaborate with. She allowed our vision to be realised and was always making that a priority; adapting to our needs and, only when appropriate, raising concerns or offering alternatives. She provided a perfect balance between leading and following. Her presence on the day was so deeply valued - she did an impeccable job.

Amanda was an absolute dream to work with! From our first conversation she was able to answer all of our questions and effortlessly guide us through the whole process. She wrote a beautifully engaging and entertaining ceremony for us and helped create the perfect vows. I had the delight of being involved in a ceremony with Amanda in December 2022. Amanda is the consummate professional who radiates warmth, happiness and joy in being a celebrant. She ensures her couple feels at ease from the first meeting. Her communication, organisation and support throughout made everything seamless for the couple. All the necessary paperwork was handled by Amanda effortlessly. Her script was beautiful and suited the couple perfectly, just the right sprinkling of humour and much laughter from the guests. Do we need a marriage celebrant?

Can we exchange vows on our wedding day , and just get registered at the registry office on separate day- and therefore not require a celebrant? And if so- is this more cost effective? Thank you

Yes, you absolutely can!.... however there's a couple of things to keep in mind.

You can exchange vows on your wedding day, and have a friend or family member 'officiate' the ceremony if you wish, however you will not be legally married. This type of ceremony is commonly called a 'commitment ceremony' and does not require a celebrant.

You would not be legally married until you exchange your vows with an Authorised Marriage Celebrant, infront of 2 witnesses and complete all the necessary paperwork, including the NOIM at least 1 month prior. This legal ceremony could either be in a registry office or with a marriage celebrant.

Whether or not this is more cost effective depends on where you intend to marry and also the celebrants available to you. Many offer a 'legal's only' service which can be very reasonable and perhaps, a little more personal too.

If I have a friend conducting my ceremony and a qualified celebrant there to do the legal parts, can my friend pronounce us husband and wife at the end?

Yes of course! I very recently conducted a ceremony in conjuction with a friend of the family. They read out majority of the ceremony script, including the pronoucement at the end of the ceremony, and I simply stepped in to cover the sections which are required by law to legally marry two people in Australia.

Whilst the ceremony can be handled in this manner, it is still necessary for the celebrant to also complete all the requirements pre and post-ceremony to ensure the marriage is legal and binding.

Marriage without the ceremony

Hi! My partner and I would like to get legally married without a ceremony at this stage - is there anyone that can provide advice as to whether we can formally sign the legal documents without having a ceremony and saying vows? We haven't submitted the NOIM as yet but have it ready. Ive asked BDM however they arent able to provide me any advice. Thank you!

To be legally married in Australia, the minimum requirement is a 'legal's only' ceremony, which does include you both saying vows. This type of ceremony is very simple however. In attendance would be you, me and two witnesses and would take approximately 5 mins, including signing the necessary paperwork.

In order to hold a ceremony such as this, you would need to submit your NOIM with the celebrant at least one month prior to the date of your ceremony (only under exceptional circumstances can this time be reduced).
