A natural fabric is always better than a synthetic, purely because of its natural properties of breathability and insulation.

Depending on the climate you can always choose the type of naturals such as wool, linen, silk, cotton or cashmere.

Also by deciding on the weight and weave of the cloth, you can manage the drape and temperature.

Different cloths have unique properties, for example, linen creases a lot, but wool does not as much, so a blend of the two can give you an desired look with manageable properties .

There are plenty more natural blended options to achieve the perfect look. Ask us how.

November 2022

I got my wedding suit from Ashan and I could not be happier about it. I looked all over Sydney but only Ashan could find the colour I wanted and bring it to life. My custom suit fitted me perfectly and I received many compliments on my big day. Ashan helped me bring my vision to life over multiple consultations. He also gave me advice on the best accessories and shoes to go with my suit. Ashan takes his responsibility very seriously but is also so easy to talk to and get along with. He makes your suit selection a personal affair for you and him. I hope to come to him again.

How long before the wedding should the boys go suit shopping?

Winslow - Custom Tailored Wedding Suits Sydney

Generally around 14 weeks before the wedding day is a good time frame to start shopping for suits, from fitting several made-to-measure grooms and groomsmen the following are our learning for your referenence:

14 weeks prior

  • Start to research, look at colours and styles that work well with the wedding theme, colours and bridemaids
  • Discover your own unique style that represents the personality of the groom and wedding
  • Decide on the colours and collate a good amount of reference materials to go shopping
  • Decide on the groomsmen
  • Understand what is important to you and is a non-negotiable

12 weeks prior

  • Visit your short list of made to measure companies, or retail stores and weigh out the options (usually the Bride & Groom do it together)
  • Have a clear budget in mind, so that it is a planned spend, rather than a suprise
  • Think of the complete story when shopping, the shoes, accessories and suits and shirts
  • Look at fabric options, and get advice from a men's wear wedding stylist
  • Decide who do you trust the most to deliver what you want, look for design and style experience, passion, dedication and integrity as supplier traits.

11 weeks prior

  • By now you have decided on the supplier
  • You have also decided on the look you want for both the groom and groomsmen
  • The next is to decide on the fabric, and let your supplier check availaibility and if they are able to make your deadlines.
  • Set a time for a fitting for the groom and groomsmen

10 weeks prior

  • Get measured and process the suit orders
  • Made to measure suits generally take about 6 weeks to complete, before your fitting.

4 weeks prior

  • Your suits, shirts and accessories would have arrived
  • Set a fitting date for the grooms and groomsmen
  • Agree on the desired fit, and if any adjustments are needed your supplier should get this done

2 weeks prior

  • Your suits are ready for collection or delivery
  • Try them on for one last time
  • We generally advice to keep 2 week room just in case anything is running late, if all goes to plan you have 2 weeks to chill.

1 week prior

  • Practice your dance moves
  • Prepare your speech
  • Sit back and chill

Your Wedding Day

  • Dress with confidence
  • Truly enjoy your special moment
  • Don't forget to rock your new suits for the photos :)

The above is a guide, but there are exceptions, for example we have managed to complete a recent wedding in 4 weeks, due to the fact that they could not find anything that fit everyone in the retail stores, and we worked with all teams to get it done as a priority. Speak to your supplier about your timelines if there is an urgency.

Hope the information was helpful, if you need any more information please email me on winslow@winslowstyle.com , always happy to share our knowledge with future brides, grooms and groomsmen.

Wishing you all the best for your Special Day!

What are the benefits to having a bespoke suit over buying from the rack?

Winslow - Custom Tailored Wedding Suits Sydney

Having a bespoke suit has several key benfits, The most important feature is the fit.

  • A true bespoke suit, is created from scratch which means it is done with your local tailor who moulds the suit to the contour of your body, over several fitting sessions. These are generally quiet expensive if done with a quality tailor. It has unlimited customisation, and you have a lot more input along the process to create the perfect fitted garment.   In Sydney there are 0nly a few of them left.

  • Custom Made - This is not a bespoke although several brands use the word bespoke to promote a custom made to measure suit. A custom suit generally is a better fit compared to off the rack suit, with the options of unlimited customisation, and after fit alterations to improve of fit. This is more common than bespoke due to price point.

  • Off the Rack - The items are created to fit an average person in the market, and are created to a body of a fit model and graded to size, which means that it does not have too much of uniqueness to your body shape or personal preferences. It is perhaps the cheapest option. They are a great substitue to custom made, if most of the grooms are a standard sizing.

Other benefits that having a bespoke suit over an off the rack item is the attention to every detail and quality of materials. Generally a bespoke suit is made with love with an experience local tailor, and you are involved through out the process. Most custom made and off the rack suits are made in a production line in an offshore factory, and then shipped here. Generally these items are not the same quality or standard of a bespoke item (hence the price difference)

For someone that is looking for assistance of which way to go, for a strict budget, it is perhaps best to hire a wedding menswear stylist/advisor that has a good knowledge of the what is available in the market and what are the best companies and manufacturers that are availble to deliver the best value for your spend. If you need more asssistance drop us a note.

All the best for the journey ahead, and wishing you every blessing for your special day!

What formalwear would look good with a floral wedding dress?

The base is still ivory, but it had pinks, purples and through it. Its the Wendy Makin Couture Katelyn.

Winslow - Custom Tailored Wedding Suits Sydney

Hi Katelyn,

With the colours that you have mentioned, we would reccommend something in the shade of blue, and perhaps some accents in the colour to complement the ivory, pinks and purples. Keeping the outfits quiet elegant and sharp and bring in the story with the accessories of pocket square, tie, bow-tie etc. If you are getting the dress made, then simply ask the maker to order a bit more fabric and you can create the tie, bow-tie, pocket square with the exact fabric, this is something we have done recently for one of our clients. It looked amazing.

Keep note of the theme of the wedding and the style of attire that is needed to make sure you both complement each other well.  If the the dress has a relaxed feel in terms of it style and movement, pick an outfit style for him that works well with the dress, i.e if you go super formal it will look out of place and will take away from its shine. Beside just the colour these other elements can also make or break the final result.

If you need your man to connect with us, for his wedding style and for his groomsmen please feel free to connect via a message or even give us a call and will be happy to assist with a few ideas, our extensive menswear knowledge means we are able to source custom made items or off the rack clothing depending on your budget and the body shape of the groom and groomsmen.

Wishing you every blessing for your special day!

Thanks,

Winslow
