Real Wedding - Sarah & Simon

Wedding Date:  9/02/2008
Location:  Semaphore Park Beach, South Australia

HOW WE MET:

Simon and I met strangely on the internet back in January 2003. After some encouragement and lots of phone calls we decided to meet in February 2003 at the Semaphore Palais for a drink. Poor Simon ended up meeting all my friends as it was a local drinking spot - we decided at that point to meet again and by the third date we well and truly knew we were meant to be.

THE PROPOSAL:

I arrived at our beautiful apartment in Glenelg after a long day at work. I had recently got a new position and was ready to celebrate with Simon. As I went to have a shower Simon had stuck a poem on the outside of glass shower door saying how much I mean to him. As I got out the shower the house was candle lit and there was a little menu card with another poem on it. Whilst Simon was busy cooking my favourite meal of home made pizza I had no idea that he would soon propose. We sat and ate then Simon bought out dessert whilst we were eating he got down on one knee and proposed. I said ´Your kidding right´ and he said ´Just say yes´ and I said ´Ok´ and we laughed. Simon knows how informal I like things so I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal. To make it more special he also decided that we would go and pick out a ring together. So I picked a beautiful white gold ring with a diamond and emerald setting - it had the most beautiful claws that where little love hearts.

THE WEDDING DRESS:

I never wanted to get married in a white wedding dress - I have always been very non traditional. I saw a woman in a magazine in a bright red wedding dress that was just amazing so I decided straight up that I would have my dress made. I instantly found the material, which is a red silk - but it was not shiny and tough to hide any lumps and bumps. After being referred, my dressmaker was amazing! She was very honest and enthusiastic about my design and had some ideas on what to do. I had a long A line design with rouging at the bust, originally it was strapless but then we decided to go with small shoe string straps. She was so good my mother ended up getting her red outfit made by her too.

ACCESSORIES:

A black and red fascinator, My beloved antique silver & diamante necklace (that I bought from a market years ago) Silver diamante drop earrings.

THE GROOMS ATTIRE:

Black vest and slacks with a white open collar shirt.

THE BRIDESMAIDS:

A choice of there own little black dress and I bought them individual diamante necklaces.

THE CEREMONY & RECEPTION DECOR:

On the deck at the Semaphore Palais. We had big hanging Mint Green, Dark Orange, chocolate brown and white lanterns from the Vivid Room. The table settings had Silver Moroccan lanterns, gold chocolate coins and red, green and orange tea light candles.

THE TRANSPORT:

As the reception and ceremony where such a short distance I had organized a couple of mini buses to take the bridal party to the reception. On the day a family friend had surprised us and drove us in his new black Mazzarati with red interior. He has some big white ribbons on it and his son followed behind in his Red Ferrari.

BOMBONIERE:

Beautiful white wine glasses with a black stem and a little coloured organza bag with chocolate gold coins for good luck.

THE WEDDING CAKE:

A Milk and White chocolate Profiterole cake with vanilla and chocolate custard made from The Delicious Biscuit in Fulham.

ENTERTAINMENT:

The most fabulous band ´Acoustic Fix´ who played a lot of classic and new rock but in a very cocktail, acoustic way.

THE HONEYMOON:

To our favourite place, Melbourne for 3 days. Stayed at the Stamford Plaza in the heart of the city.

SPECIAL MOMENTS:

Our dog dressed in a little suit I made him. Our little figurines I had made including our two cats and our dog in his outfit. Our Wonderful celebrant Michelle Ware. My Aunty Barbara surprising us by decorating the whole walk way to the beach with flowers and frangipanis and buying us a Moroccan archway that was also decorated in flowers and used as an aisle for us to walk down. Having drinks before the reception with all my family at my parents house (made for a relaxing afternoon).

TIPS:

Always stay relaxed and enjoy the day - that way the guests feel relaxed and enjoy the day more. Make sure you get plenty of photos with Grandparents, immediate family members and ensure you choose a supportive Bridal party.
