Real Wedding - Sandra & Kai

Wedding Date:  5/1/2010
Location:  Graceville

HOW WE MET :

Kai and I met when we both worked at the FAI Insurance call centre in Brisbane. He came over to my desk to give me a phone message from my bank! As it turns out, we lived on the same street as children, and again in our early twenties!

THE PROPOSAL:

Kai and I had been together for 11 years, and had discussed marriage often - we always knew we would be married some day. We had been discussing it again one weekend, and later that day, while visiting Kai´s mother and grandparents, he announced that we were engaged. I was stunned as I thought we´d just been chatting about it again! When he purchased my ring, he did the formal thing and got down on bended knee in our lounge room - he had to start again, however, as the sport was on TV and he had to turn down the volume!

THE WEDDING DRESS:

My wedding dress was by Angeline, bought at Ferrari formal at Mount Gravatt. It was a simple ivory sheath dress with spaghetti straps, and gorgeous beading. Simple and elegant, just what I wanted!

ACCESSORIES:

I wore matching earrings and necklace with purple stones, as well as a purple flower ring. I also had gold and diamante pins scattered through my hair.

THE GROOM'S ATTIRE:

Kai and his boys wore suits hired from Strictly Formal, in black. Kai chose the Matrix style of suit, and his groomsmen wore the Maverick style. They had purple ties and handkerchiefs. Very handsome!

THE BRIDESMAIDS:

My lovely bridesmaids wore simple black halter neck cocktail dresses by Alfred Angelo, with purple drop earrings. My gift to them was a cuff bracelet each from Diva, in purple tones. They wore sandals by C´est Bon, in black with diamante trim.

THE THEME:

Kai´s very favourite colour is purple, and that was his only specification when we began planning. Just wanted purple! So we went with purple, black and violet. I am quite a Twilight fan so I managed to sneak a few subtle Twilight-themed touches in. For example, when signing the certificate, the music playing was a piece called "The Meadow" by Alexandre Despat, from the Twilight:New Moon score.

FLOWERS:

My flowers were by Flora by Lora. I chose to have deep purple Lisianthus, my favourite flower. My bouquet was all deep purple, while the bridesmaids’ bouquets had scatterings of lilac Lisianthus as well. The flowers lasted more than a week after the wedding, and my florist Sue did a magic job!

THE CEREMONY & RECEPTION DECOR:

Our reception featured white tablecloths, with purple trim and sashes. My mother Margie created lovely centrepieces out of glass bowls and purple candles. As I´m a keen scrap-booker, I made the menus and the place cards all myself. I had a single place card per table, with the names of all guests at that table. Each place card featured a quote from some of our favourite movies.

BOMBONIERE:

Kai and I are great animal lovers, so our bomboniere were little purple pouches containing a purple RSPCA pen or keyring. My mother has been fighting breast cancer for a few years, so the pouches also contained pink balloons from the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

THE WEDDING CAKE:

We had an absolutely delicious two-tier cake, in jaffa choc mud cake. It was truly beautiful to look at! Thanks to Carons Cakes!

ENTERTAINMENT:

We had the delightful Jasmine from G&M Solutions DJs, who happily worked from playlist provided by Kai and I.

THE HONEYMOON:

We had a brief but delightful stay at the Mouses House, at Springbrook QLD, in a secluded rainforest chalet. We´re taking our BIG honeymoon in few months to New York and Seattle, USA.

SPECIAL MOMENTS:

The whole day was truly magical, and went like clockwork. There was absolutely nothing we were disappointed with. The staff at Woodlands of Marburg were a delight to work with, and the food was fabulous. Kai’s speech was incredible - he´s always been eloquent and well spoken, but his reception speech was beautiful! My sisters and bridesmaids, Kathy and Rebecca, surprised me on the dance floor with their "vampire dance", which is much easier to appreciate after champagne!

TIPS:

Ladies, on the big day, just relax and take it all in. This is your day, and nothing matters but marrying the man you love. Don’t sweat the small stuff, and enjoy the attention!
