Real Wedding - Laura & MichaelWedding Date: 24/10/2009Location: Forest Lake, QLD HOW WE MET:Michael and I met while I was doing a maternity contract at his work. I guess you could say it was love at first kiss because after our first date we were inseparable!THE PROPOSAL:While we were away for a weekend Michael had managed to slip the ring into our bag without me knowing. He recruited my son to help him and during a sunset walk around the lake he stopped on the lakeshore underneath a lamp got on bended knee and asked me to be his wife, while my son presented me with the ring. It was very emotional and so special that he had included my son in our special moment.THE WEDDING DRESS:: I found my wedding dress in a preloved bridal store. After hunting around everywhere for the "perfect dress" I found it in a second hand store. It was a champagne boarding on latte sweetheart neckline dress with a taffeta underlay. Lace was attached to the dress on the bodice and then fell away from the waist. I added cap sleeves to give it that vintage feel and it was topped off with a lace bandeau around the waist fastened with a lace and crystal flower.ACCESSORIES:I had my jewellery custom made by a lady on the website Etsy. She made me a three strand pearl and crystal necklace with a side crystal detail and matching drop pearl earrings. I also had my birdcage veil custom made by Dorene at Unveiled Bridal DesignsTHE GROOMS ATTIRE:The boys wore grey pinstriped suits from Ed Harry Menswear with black and white pinstriped fedoras. They also had matching pocketwatches with a train motif on the front to bring in the train element of our wedding.THE BRIDESMAIDS:The bridesmaids wore floor length ivory strapless dresses which we added a black satin sash and a cameo brooch to.THE THEME:Our wedding theme was Vintage 1930´s train travel with a black and ivory colour palette.FLOWERS:I had a posy of 30 Antique pink roses with ivory pearls and black and clear AB crystals through it. The stems were bound with black and ivory lace and a cameo brooch was attached. The bridesmaids had champagne rose corsages with a black diamante braceletTHE CEREMONY & RECEPTION DECOR:We used the old brown brick Powerhouse at the train museum as the backdrop to our ceremony and had the chairs covered with white covers and black sashs to bring in our colour theme. The reception was held in the old Refreshment Room at the museum and it had old carved wood tables and chairs that we used. We also put old red train lanterns on the tables to incorporate the train theme in as well.THE TRANSPORT:We hired a 1938 Rolls Royce. It was so beautiful and fit our vintage theme perfectlyBOMBONIERE:We gave our guests 1930´s inspired pillow boxes with feathers and a diamante buckle. Inside them they had conversation hearts with thing like "I do" and "Mr & Mrs" on themTHE WEDDING CAKE:The cake I originally picked up from the cake makers was horrible! It was supposed to have iced peonies and our last name´s initial on it. When I picked it up it looked tacky and cheap so I went to spotlight to buy some lace, silk flowers and vintage buckles to try to fix it. The cake itself was double layered two tiered mud cake.ENTERTAINMENT:We used Mobydisc as our DJ and they provided us with Joel. He was wonderful. He was attentive and very attuned to what we wanted. Our first dance was to Billie Holidays I’ll be seeing you which is used in my favourite move The Notebook. Our cake cutting song was Knock me a kiss by Louis Jordan. We had 1930 music playing during dinner and then once all the formalities were over Joel mixed it up with 50s & 60s with newer chart toppers. We didnt have a going away circle we had our own dance to New York, New York by Frank Sinatra which we did an improvised broadway dance too.THE HONEYMOON:Phuket, Thailand. It was amazing! The people and the culture. It was truly a wonderful experience.SPECIAL MOMENTS:Seeing Michael standing there waiting was a very special moment for me. He looked amazing and I was so excited to finally be his wife. Being pronounced man and wife was another very special moment as it felt like we had been planning this wedding for years. Another very special moment was the speeches. Everyone´s speeches were just beautiful and it gave us great encouragement that our families feel as strongly about our relationship as we do!TIPS:Don´t stress the small stuff. On the day all the little things will fade away and you will marry the man of your dreams. When you look back a week, a month or a year later you will see that the small things that you fretted about didn´t affect the most wonderful day of your lifePhotography: Nicola Rose Photography |
